The Chaos Engine theme

I was going to put this in AMP, but seen as this is to do with a computer game and hopefully a download, and this place is where old-school gamers are likely to go, I thought it might be prudent to ask here.

In 1993, the Bitmap Brothers released an awesome if extremely difficult game called The Chaos Engine, which was a victorian steampunk shooter game and pretty awesome. One of the coolest things about it was the soundtrack, it had a cool industrial midi in it that I'd like to find, download and then make an industrial/metal version of.

Any ideas on where to get it? This is a really old school game so I'm at a bit of a loss.

The song is called chaoseng.mod, which, with some sleuthing, I'm sure you'll be able to find. However, you will need a program capable of playing .mod files, I think DeliPlayer can do this "out of the box".

Was a rather awesome game I seem to remember.

Chaos Engine was pretty awesome, but I remember one of the versions being better than the others. Was there an Amiga version?

There was. My inner Amigan tells me it's the better one, but I never did get around to trying any other one... :D

Yeah, when I think 'better version of 90s shooter' I always thing 'I bet it was the Amiga version'. :) They even had Strider on Amiga for chrissakes.

Hm. Only thing I could find on Youtube was the Atari version, apparently. Now this may be my rose-tinted glasses in action, but the sound effects and music seem painfully bad in comparison with "the real thing"... :?

There most certainly was an Amiga version, that's the version me and my bro played (because the only computer we had was an Amiga 500)

Whatever the linked one is, its sound and graphics beat the living shit out of the PC version that I had to dig up again after seeing this thread. The damn music hurts my ears.

Winamp can play it, thanks a hell of a lot!

Oh and yeah, the Amiga version was better. :) The Mega Drive version was alright, but it wasn't as much of a joy to play.

Occasionally, Winamp fucks up the mod format. Modplug has always worked for me though, and can also play both xm, s3m and mdz (which equals zipped mod files).

I loved Chaos Engine on my Amiga, but I never really got why Bitmap Brothers were considered so awesome for their time. I was certainly quite unimpressed by Gods, Xenon was so-so, and Speedball 2, while fun, had few innovative aspects.

Now, Psygnosis and Delphine I get -- they at least tried to do something different once or twice.

On the Amiga Speeball 2 was god.

Which made it all the more dissapointing when i downloaded a PC version from an abandonware site and found the (unchangeable) control scheme was totally shit.

Damn this thread might as well be called Nostalgia Incarnate.
