yeah go here and buy a rebel xti base camera
Then go get a 18-85mm (is) lense.

Unfortnatley you'll have to look around for the cheapest place for hte lense. Total price should be under $950

Depends what you want. I'm personally a fan of Canon (any of their cameras will do a great job). If you're looking for an SLR, I'd look at the Canon 30D, 400D, or 350D (depending on budget).

If you give usa bit more information about waht you want from the camera, I'm sure that people will be able to give you more detailled advice.

I've got Fuji, and their cameras are meant to be pretty good. The only thing is that both Fuji and Olympus use their own memory card format, the XD card.

Firstly you'll have to decide on a form factor. Small pocket camera for the parties, medium sized for the amateur on a budget, or a dSLR?

I work for Canon, Im biased. But if you have any questions about any their cameras (or really Ive got pretty good knowledge on most cameras) gogo ask away. :)

Like its been said before though, really cant help ya till we know specifics of what you're looking for.

SLR or pocket camera is really the big question ^_^
Yay.

Get a camera from a camera company. Further than that, you need to decide what size camera you want.
