Quick Windows XP networking question

I have two computers, connected by a single ethernet cable(no routing).

I'm running into problems browsing the workgroup from the main PC(IP set to 192.168.0.1), the other PC shouldn't be a problem, as it's configured to auto set an IP and dosn't have any firewall working.

Any idea whats going on?

The other computer needs a static ip, right now it has the aipipa adress, 169.254.x.x

Open the control panel and set a static ip like 192.168.0.10 / 24

Tho check the ip adress open a command window Start/run/cmd.exe and type ipconfig

Unless your main PC knows how to hand out IP addresses (it likely doesn't) you'll need to manually specify the other one as well.

Does either computer have a firewall on?

Unless they all decided to go watch ANOTHER 4 hours of House I suspect bridging his two NICs worked, since he hasn't been online to bug me in the past hour or two.

How can you live without a router, or at least a little switch, is beyond me!
