Weird Comp Issue

So I got a new system a few days ago, and all was well for a bit. It demolished the Company of Heroes performance test and runs Battlefield 2 easily, both for extended periods of time, leading me to rule out overheating (see below).

The problem has manifested itself under two different situations: Once, upon exiting CoH (which at the time I dismissed and assumed was a DVD check issue since I removed the DVD too early), and more consistently and frustratingly in Oblivion, mostly when loading areas.

The problem itself is extremely irritating and has defied most of my troubleshooting efforts: The game in question will essentially CTD, but with most of the last frame of the game plastered on most of the desktop. The system will be somewhat unresponsive at first, though when I click on something (such as the start menu or nVidia control panel) the monitor will black out for a few seconds, then return with a partially updated frame relevant to what I clicked (i.e., part of the start menu will appear). Every click generates a similar response, though a mouseover that would be accompanied by some visual change does nothing (the visual change does not happen nor does the monitor wipe, as if the system did not register the mouseover). Also, the mouse cursor itself is fine, much like a lot of common lock ups.

This will get increasingly bad until I restart (generally a hard restart given the difficulties in doing so otherwise), and eventually the mouse cursor will start to lag as performance gets ridiculously poor. Once, I did manage to bang my head against the wall enough to get as far as a GPU temperature gauge, but it was fine.

This problem is driving me utterly insane, not in the least because I'd like to finally play Oblivion at more than 12 FPS (and for the record, it runs absolutely fine with no performance issues up until it crashes during a load). I've updated to the current nVidia drivers as well as attempting a variety of Oblivion-specific fixes which have since been removed and the game reinstalled, though the earlier CoH incident would suggest it isn't specific to Oblivion anyway.

Any help out there?

Nevermind, I seem to have fixed it. It was related to Xfire, bizarrely enough. :wtf:
