So its been mentioned that people would be interested in playing an Iron Kingdoms game if I were to run it.

Time to find out if you meant it. :P

Belly up and shout your name if you are.

Sure, I got nothing else to do once all my friends leave for college.

Though I'm not sure how it'd work, I'm up for anything IK related.

Hmmm, I detect some enthusiasm for the idea.

So, supposing we get this thing off the ground, are their particular preferences in what kind of game we run? (e.g. heavily military, thievey, or mechanics light, etcetera)

Khadoran military? Might be just my warmachine partiality talking. Or pehaps a mixed Mercenary/Adventure setting.

There's also plenty of chances for trouble-making and counter trouble-making in Llael in the wake of the Khadoran invasion. Plenty of action in the areas around the Thornwood and Corvis with the war stirring things up.

And of course Vinter and Magnus making trouble in Cyngar's East with the second Skorne Invasion. Plenty of action to be had there. And for that matter, overlapping with the Khador vs Cygnar action going on in and around Corvis and the Thornwood.

There's always the Witchfire Trilogy too. Though that is a seperate module and set a tad bit in the past compared to "current" events in WM. Same general region and can easily segue way into the later stuff in the larger Corvis area if there's sustained interest.

We won't be doing Witchfire, because I'm not going to be buying it anytime soon.

There's all sorts of ways to get into trouble in the Iron Kingdoms, for fun and profit. Ruins from the Orgoth period also gives opportunities for an old fashion dungeon crawl and then there's all the fun of city based adventures and IK cities are fucking huge by fantasy standards.

That said your preference for a military/mercenary style will work for this Black Company fan. Anyone other preferences by anyone else?

Thoughts on how to do mechanics?

Well I'm one of those people that loathe D20 so the lighter on the mechanics and the more on the RP the better. Otherwise, I don't care what we do. :)

I figured not. Though I do highly recommend it as it's the iconic IK RPG story and a hinge point of Immoren's history. It's also a darn good adventure in it's own right. I've got it and always considered it a shame that I never did get a complete run out of it with the college gaming group.

Still, if you're looking for good IK stuff later on, it comes with my stamp of approval.

That's my preference but just about anything would actually work for me. I'd just assume have some chance for role playing and dungeon crawls, especially over the web, are really the opposite of that.
Imperial Overlord wrote:Thoughts on how to do mechanics?
I'd say keep it some what light. I'd agree with Kojiro that D20 mechanics can be unweildy, and over the web even more.

My thought would be to have characters created with a full stats so you've got an idea what people can do. And just do RPing with you doing any behind the scenes rolling that you think is necessary.

Cool, that works for me. Hell, that way we might even get Ford to join.

While I'd like to join in, my experience in this sort of thing begins and ends at about 'cursory'.

That doesn't mean you can't join. If you're interested there are more than enough people that can and will help you figure things out. It's not at all difficult really to get into a game.

Besides, mechanics light means you don't even have to worry about a lot of it. Just get a character up and then do what they'd do.

I think we just stumbled at the first step, Jim.

What? Character creation?

Please. If you're interested in getting into the game, believe me, we can set you up. It's not hard to get ahold of the OGL materials to create a basic D20 character, just google "D20 System Reference Document" and you'll have all the basics you'll need.

Trust me, this isn't nearly as hard as you seem to think.

I would be very interested in doing this Iron Kingdoms game. I hope me being basically a lurker with no posting history won't disqualify me from this.
(P.S. I sent an private message to Imperial Overlord, but my computer my have crapped out when I sent it. Did you get it?)

Right, right, sorry guys. Was a bit busy this morning. Anyways, thinking about what I could possibly play as, I decided to go through my small collection of Warmachine images.

I saw this:

I thought that was cool.

Well, he's dude wearing what appears to be some kind of warcaster armour (the smoke stacks on the back are a giveaway) and packing a pistol. Most warcasters are militarily trained spellcasters of some sort, whether they are sorcerers, clerics, wizards, arcane mechaniks, or priests. So do you want to go the military spell slinger type route or just the pistolier bit?

I guessed it was a warcaster - most of my art is either Warjacks or Warcasters. Oh, and some big guy with a sword covered in screaming faces.

Isn't there a class called gun mage? I mean, that strikes me as being particularly win. I mean, unless it's horrifically broken (I have a habit of being attracted to broken classes and so on).

Right, there is. I meant to include them, but I must have missed adding them when I remembered arcane mechaniks. Yes, they are very cool, not really broken as far as I can tell (not that that is a problem in mechanic's light game). The classic fighter/mage combo give a full metal fantasy twist. It's very kosher.

Excellent. [/Mr Burns]

Then that's what I'll be. Is there any particularly useful reading you could direct me to?

As it happens, they have PDF of the class with full D&D rules available as a free download, complete with flavor text.

Got the message. Welcome aboard.
Awesome. Looking forward to it, and I'm up for any type of game anyone else wants to play. All I have to do now is read some backround info and decide what type of character to play. I'm personally leaning towwards some type of sniper or a spy type who functions by using informants and using payoffs (like a real spy).
