The rumor mill met Don Quijote and got slain.

iPhone looks nice and I might buy it, but the rest is meh at best for me.

$500 for the iPhone?! Sure, it's got a bunch of neat stuff, but it's $500!

The Motorola Razr (without any contract deals or the like) is over $300. I think my point was just made, no?

Not quite. The iPhone apparently only comes with a contract.

I wasn't posting because I was trying to avoid spoilers until the video was up.

Having watched the entire MWSF '07 keynote...

...wow. I am utterly amazed. This thing is like a PADD.

I'm not one for new phones and am using the free Nokia one I got...but wow.

I'd have to be retarded to switch to a new plan for a single phone (my sister just did that, for the Chocolate. Dumbest thing ever. I calculated that she's spending $1980 more than she would have if she stuck with the plan she already has paid off).

If they come out with an unlocked model, I might actually eventually buy one. Eventually (it's $500 freakin' dollars after all!).

Is it true that the AppleTV requires a widescreen TV? At AUD$500 I'd be tempted to buy one, but the apple store says a widescreen TV is required, which I don't have.

The "Watch the iPhone Introduction" button skips the first 30 minutes of the keynote (Apple TV + Apple marketshare numbers).

Awesome keynote, but I wanted to see more of Leopard.

I believe so. Notice that it has no composite output.

I have no HDTV, nothing with component or HDMI. Thus I can't use the Apple TV.

Stupidest Apple decision ever IMHO. None of their content is in HD, so why REQUIRE HD cables?

Jobs is always the first to drop stuff he considers "dead". Floppy drives, modems etc

It's also cheaper to have HDMI out - analog outputs would require additional hardware. Annoying, yes, but I'd rather get the SlingCatcher anyways :P

But what is the point if it isn't properly used due to lack of high def content? Also, take a look at Praxis and I, this decision to only have HD cables instantly loses two potential sales due to lack of equipment that supports it, how many more are in the same boat? It seems that Apple is almost doing a Sony PS3 here with the HD crap, but not even Sony were stupid enough to make the PS3 a HD only system.

The more I've looked at this the less appealing it is. HD output only, no TV tuner(seriously, what's with calling something the 'AppleTV' but it won't record or even watch regular TV broadcasts? I don't have broadband at home so I won't be downloading TV from iTunes), and no DVD/CD drive. If it supported all those things I would be recommending these to friends/family, but as it is a LG DVD Hard drive recorder for AUD$200 less will be of more use to the vast majority of people I know.
