Quick question about gfx cards and video editing

Post by Seggybop »

Do more powerful graphics cards accelerate the rendering of digital video editing/effects? I didn't think so, but someone is telling me this now. I was under the impression that the benefit of such cards is entirely for 3D rendering.

I believe that it is only certain Video Cards, (Like some Matrox boards I've worked with before) and you need to have an NLE or a plug-in to support it.

I think some newer NLEs are starting to offload on modern programmable GPUs. The Matrox boards were usually custom boards for NLE work, not general graphics cards.
