Battlestations Midway

The multiplayer demo is out, and I had a fucking blast. However, Gamespy is currently the only way to play, and it can be a pain in the ass.
I was in a DD facing off against a BB and I managed to destroy the BB with a torpedo spread. IT WAS FUCKING AWESOME. I barely made it out of there, and then I went on to cripple one carrier. If you're good at evasive maneuvers you can be a serious problem in a DD, but a good hit from a even just another DD can cause serious damage.
Anyway, I recommend downloading the demo, and giving it a try. Let me know what you think...

Reminds me of Taffy 3 and their being left to cover the USN invasion thanks to Hayley charging off on a wild goose chase....

"Dammit boys, they're gettin away!"
That battle has to be my favorite of the Pacific. Nothing like having your entire surface force mass less than a single enemy cap ship to say "We are so utterly screwed."
Wait... We won? How the hell...?
On Hayley, I have not read enough in detail to know where the fault (or most of it) belongs, but I recall that a task force was supposed to be formed to cover the straight, but due to a mixup, never was.
Going to have to get this one I think (only just learned it was coming for the PC too). Always had a blast with TP boats and destroyers in Enigma, and the bigger tactical aspect appeals to me. Do not suppose anyone knows how it compares to Pacific Storm?

Fun game! I totally got hung out to dry when my idiot teammate lost his carrier in 2 seconds and I spent the rest of my time holding off waves of 18 torpedo bombers.

Well, this sucks. I downloaded this anticipating some shipkilling action, except it seems as though my University's packetshaping isn't allowing this to be played.

I managed to get it working this afternoon. Turns out you need Gamespy Arcade running simultaneously. It is indeed good fun, although I find the tendency for stalemates a bit frustrating. And the thing seems Japan biased, the airfield is much more durable than carriers, and their battleships are more powerful too.

Wow, so they expect me to spend ten minutes opening a dozen ports their worthless software needs before I can even join a game? It's like they wanted to remind me why I haven't bothered using gamespy in years.
How does running gamespy arcade at the same time help? It didn't offer to install it, and I don't have it lying around.

It doesn't. I don't run it at the same time and it does just fine. The game is certainly interesting (especially when set to Oldschool Film viewing option) but it's kinda slow and it's too easy to take someone out of the fight real fast and yet have the game drag on for a long time. Giving them units doesn't really count.

Well I can't even log in, and I remember all the thousands of ports Gamespy Arcade uses for... something... that they really, really need to do even though other games don't bother and work fine.
Ahh, Kohan, the lengths I went to to play it online.

Gamespy issues can be resolved by downloading gamespy arcade, and signing in. Then you can remove gamespy arcade.

Yeah, that's my major gribe with the game. I don't know what it is with developers, but it seems they are determined to add something bad to a really good game, and gamespy is about as bad as you can get.
This game is a lot of fun, and I recommend that you give it a try if you can tolerate gamespy.

I've had a few games. Pretty good, all told. Need to work on my torpedo skills, but I'm a serious danger in a dogfight, and pretty good at ship stuff too.
So far, the only problem I've had is poor co-ordination on the part of teams. If you get a good one, you can cause serious problems, if not you get suckerpunched. (in my last game our carriers were too busy defending themselves to notice a cheeky air attack that nixed our shipyards. On the other hand, one DD that no-one noticed killed both their airfields and one shipyard before it was spotted by their own inept navy.)

Tried the xbox360 demo. Seems like a very fun game, but I'm still noobisch in controls.
Only noticeable act by me is killing a pussy DD in my Kongo Class (and it took a while too).
Can you ram ships?

Yes, but it isn't really worth it.
The battleship is a monster. I was piloting one and singlehandedly took down another BB, a CA, a submarine, a DD, two harbors, and a carrier with a little under half my health remaining. Its annoying that you can only launch so few planes at once.

The Kongo is certainly a monster, they seem to outshoot the Renown class quite handily in a standup fight.
Easy meat for a sub though.
I have to say, my favourite shipyard for either side is the one that builds subs, either to make a beeline for the US carriers, or to shoot up BBs in the open sea.
