Wii Play? More like Wii Crack!

...not really. I just like saying that.
So, my wife picked this up yesterday, and we had a chance to play for a couple hours last night. So, here's a hasty review:
This game is out-and-out designed to demo the Wii Remote. They tell you this when the game first starts. The nine minigames are simple to play and a lot of fun, and its integration with the Mii Channel is like Wii Sports, which makes things all the more fun.
The game absolutely lacks depth. Totally. There are nine minigames, and that's it. You play them, you have your fun, and you turn off the game. AFAIK, there's no secret levels, no bonus to unlock. You do get medals at certain levels (bronze, silver, gold, and platinum, just like Wii Sports), but otherwise, you just play.
I think the big draw for this is Wii Remote bundled with the game. Considering that a Wii Remote costs $40, and the bundle is $50, you're absolutely getting your money's worth with this game. Like Warioware, this game is a great party game. It's only two-player, but the games go quickly, so it's not really a problem.
Verdict: I would be upset if I bought this game standalone, but since it cost essentially ten bucks, I'm very happy with Wii Play. It probably won't get the kind of lavish attention that I give Wii Sports, but it's great for some quick fun.

Oh, you got it early, too? Sweet.
I'm taking it over to Uts' house later today.

I have to say, I use my Wii more for web surfing from the comfort of my living room than I do playing any games; I like party games like Rayman, Monkey Ball, Sports and WarioWare as much as the next guy, but after Zelda I know the system can handle games with a longer attention span and I'd love to see more evidence of this.

ii Play Wii Play.
I am much happier with this game as a demo of what the Wiimote can do. I was kind of skiddish because of the Wii Sports seemed to have inconsistant reactions(it could sense my bat moving behind me well, but was sketchy on the swing). Shooting Gallery almost makes me want to buy one of the FPSes out for Wii, though I've heard they are lame. Tanks is fun, and I could see me and my friends killing time with it, Billiards, and shooting gallery.

For FPS's:
Red Steel is a mediocre game; nobody would care if it was on the XBox, but the Wii control scheme adds a novelty factor.
Call of Duty 3 is *great*, but since they rushed it for launch they took out the multiplayer. Entirely.
And Far Cry has the best control scheme of any Wii FPS...but the graphics literally look near-Nintendo 64 quality, the AI is atrocious and the game is repetative.

If you want a Wii FPS, just wait a little while longer for Metroid Prime 3 so you don't wind up with something that looks or plays subpar.

I played Red Steel and Far Cry on the Wii and found both rather awful and unplayable due to the controls. Do I just suck at FPS games/the Wii, or are there others who feel this way?

I've always been horrible at traditional FPS games on both the PC and consoles. Red Steel was the first FPS I've ever found myself able to control well. I think it probably suits more the FPS novices who haven't yet learned habits that are bad for the new control style. The relatively low difficulty of the game compared to other FPS certainly helps too.

Only played CoD3 which just didn't fucking work. Technical issues (LAAAAG due to the Wii not being up for those kind of graphics) and gameplay issues (controls fucking suck) mean that you just can't fucking do it.

I had no problem at all with Red Steel, other than the fact that it's a deeply generic shooter with nothing at all to reccomend it in terms of level, weapon, or mission design. And it's far too easy, because the enemies can't shoot for shit. Also the swordfight controls were unresponsive and annoying, I just wanted to shoot the swordfight opponents as they wandered towards me nonchalantly.
(Personally, I'm glad I borrowed Red Steel, rather than buying it or paying to rent it)

Yeah, the *controls* for Red Steel were fine for me, the game was just bland. The swordfighting was TERRIBLE and felt tacked on.

Also, for a game called "Red Steel" there was a complete and utter lack of any, well, red.
Cause, y'know, I expect people to bleed if they get all shot and chopped up.

I was actually doing pretty well with the controls, probably because I'm used to keyboard and mouse over normal console controls.

I'm a console shooter hater and the controls were sloppy and combined with choppy framerates it was fucking rubbish.
