Royal Flush!

I have been playing poker online for several years now, and a few moments ago I was dealt K + J of spades. The flop came A + 10 of spades and four of clubs. Then the turn was a Queen of spades ... giving me a Royal Flush! Obviously I won the pot, sadly it was only $6.35, but I made sure to take a picture with my mobile phone before the cards were mucked.
What are the odds of getting a Royal Flush anyway? Akin to winning the lottery? Maybe I'll get that job on Monday if this is an indication of how my luck is going?

I think this isn't indicative of a good trend; it's probably more likely that that hand used up your luck quota for the next year or so. That's why I don't play poker. I have other things to waste my valuable supply of Luck on.

I got a Royal Flush playing 5 Card Draw, Jokers wild, twenty some-odd years ago...yeah, the wild card made it infinitely less impressive, but my hysterical laughter made everyone think I was bluffing, poorly, so they bet accordingly.

Not even close on straight poker, when it's draw then it's merely highly improbable. Something like 1:375,000 for straight poker (according to the little odds card in my pack), the draw poker odds depends on the limit of cards. It's impressive but it's not really lottery odds.

I got a Royal Flush once, by the enthusiastic stupidity of youth. I got dealt an Ace high Straight all hearts except for the king, which I folded and got the king of hearts instead!!!
The massive pot was 1 Swedish Krona...
Why wasn't I in Vegas that day??? Oh yeah, the Casino age limits...

That's impressive. The best hand I've ever gotten in poker was a full house, three kings and two queens. And I lost that hand!

I got a royal flush once and my (poker) luck came back after just two weeks though I got shit for the rest of that game.

Was playing a game of nolimit Texas hold'em with friends (just for fun, not for cash) a few nights ago. I came up one card short of a Royal Flush. Still, I had a regular Flush, and that was enough to clean the rest of them out.
I did get a Royal Flush once before, when my best friend and I were playing a game of Texas Hold'em. He went to make food, and I stacked the deck so elaborately that he ended up having four kings, while I had a Royal Flush. Naturally, he went all-in. I called. He laughed hysterically and showed his hand. I showed him mine. Literally all the colour drained out of his face, which is quite amusing to see on an olive-skinned fellow. Of course, I admitted afterwards (about an hour afterwards) that I had stacked the deck. We laughed about it, he punched me in the ribs. It was worth it. Hehe.

Good luck! Clean them out... it's so much fun to pwn your friends at poker. Of course, it can also lead to trust issues. "How the hell did you become so good at bluffing? Are you a fucking compulsive liar?"
"Yes, everything I say is a lie. By the way, I have a Full House. Might wanna fold."
"Yeah, I call bullshit. *bets insane amount*"
*calls* "Huh. Full House. I win. What do you know, I guess I don't lie all the time."
"FUCK YOU!"

The odds of getting a royal flush in 5 cards is about 650,000:1
In 6 cards (i.e. at the turn, like you got), about 108,000:1
In 7 cards (river), about 15,500:1
The problem with royal flushes in hold-em is that there will be at least three suited high cards showing; your opponents will often expect you have the best flush and fold (since they can't have any suited card better than 9), except in the rare instances where they have a full house or better.

I had a situation in college once like that. Playing draw with my housemates, one of them got dealt a full house. I had three eights, drew two and got the other eight. I spent the next fifteen minutes calling him a lying fuck and that I was calling his bluff while I kept raising the pot and he kept going with me.
I think I won a weeks worth of beer and cigarettes on that one hand

I seriously hope you bid 7Spades off the top. And then redoubled it. And were vulnerable.
I've dreamt about those hands. And the perfect no trump hands as well (A-K-Q in each suit and a jack in one of them, and various other unbeatable hands).
Back on topic, I've had straight flushes, royal straights, but no royal flushes. Granted I don't play all that often, so my chances on the big hands are somewhat reduced.
