I've been looking around the net an wondered if there was going to be another expansion for Empire at War.
Also what would YOU like to see in a new expansion?

Imperator & TIE Variants is what I'm looking for... space is my favorite part of this game, which coincidentally I just got this morning for twenty bucks.

who needs an expansion? There is an active modding community

The modding community is far superior to the team that did the expansion pack.
More ships, more variety, more fun.

These guys really can't speak English worth a damn, and the mod is still WIP as far as I know, but it adds a ton of ships and is, in my opinion, pretty fun.

Let me add. That the few times I tried mods they didn't work. I want to just be able to install and play them.
Not have to go hunting for all kinda files I have to change manually to get the blasted thing to work. (Yes I've had to do this)

Ironiclly I actually went Mod hunting and found that one here

What would I like to see in an expansion?
Dangerous question, but here we go.
Larger combat. I want to see dozens of star destroyers supported by hundreds of smaller ships and thousands of fighters.
3D space combat. None of this bullshit "oh look we can't fly through the water, er, asteroid fields!". Fuck that shit. Let me have my 3D. Let me manuever my fleet to take advantage of the Star Destroyer's open lower hull.
Better ground battles. Bigger maps. More to do. Because honestly the "let's zerg rush the generators then bomb the place to hell" got old two minutes into the game.
A bigger galaxy. Just do it.

Orbital Bombardment and Base Delta Zero would be awesome...

I take it back. I cant get the mod to work...
For me. More ships and units. A FAR larger galaxy...
More factions. Jabba's cartel, Talon Karde's cartel, The Hypians, Corporate Sector Authority, Pirate clans, Mandalorians. Maybe a create a faction...
Also make the land battles more involved. Multiple missions to take over a world...
Make it possible for factions to set up an undercover base. On hostile planets ect.
Also make it where you can decided how complex your game will be.

Getting mods installed is easy. There's a folder called mods.
Put it in there. Make sure you have a mod for the original or expansion (there's a relevant folder in the installed games location).
If you download the "petrolauncher" that can be found in to mod tools download section of that filefront site it will load it up for you all automatically.

Okay tried running petrolauncher. Got an error message that I need a .netframwork file to run it...
Trying to find this mod folder now in my EaW game files...

Program files > Lucas arts > Empire at war/Empire at war force of corruption > Data > Mods
You sure you got the latest versions of the game?
Also, if petrolauncher doesn't work.
Create a short cut of the eaw.exe, right click and go to the path bit that looks like this..
"C:\Program Files (x86)\LucasArts\Star Wars Empire at War Forces of Corruption\EAWXLauncher.exe"
To make it load a mod put this at the end
you will have this "C:\Program Files (x86)\LucasArts\Star Wars Empire at War Forces of Corruption\EAWXLauncher.exe" MODPATH= foldername
(folder name being the name of the folder in the Mods folder.

When I tried updating it said latest version installed...
This is alot like when I first got on myspace an tried to learn all the tricks...
I see one of my errors was trying to find the MODs in vinalle Empire at War. Not FOC...

Okay launched mod with the petrolauncher thing after getting the file I needed.
All I got was the same old game. Not a single added unit. Tried campaign, galatic conquest and skirmish...

I give up... This is just to much shit to deal with for a few added worships...
whatsmore I managed to mess up my vinalle copies and have to reinstall them...

If you're trying to use the FoC version of the mod I linked to, you have to boot it on its own- you should have a folder called "Star Wars - Empire at War - Space Addon."
You simply click the file in there, and it will run the addon, then EaW.

Is there a mod that puts the ships to scale?
Posted: 2007-03-10 06:25pm
by PREDATOR490
Orbital Bombardment is already in the game with FOC and its fairly powerful but still questionable when a single bombarment cant even take out a single bunker.
Their is one mod that allows a Galactic Conquest match of 65 planets with system sub forces that occupy certain planets. Like Yuuzhan Vong.
It also has features which force you to build shipyards on certain planets to gain access to the company ships.
I.E
Kuat Drive Yards = Star Destroyers.
Mon Cal Shipyards = Mon Cal Cruisers
I can say I dont like this mod simply because it adds wayyyy too much and I cant say I enjoy the idea of being restricted to only building certain things on one planet.
The Ship scaling in this mod is ugly, a single broadside cruiser is equal in size to a regular Victory but it has the Soverign, Executor, Death Star etc.
What would I like to see ?
1) Upgradeable ship compliments.
If I can build TIE Defeders / TIE Interceptors squad then I would like it if the Star Destroyers could be upgraded to carry the best squadrons rather than have them launching lesser counter parts.
2) Larger maps
- Not so much a problem with the Space Addon mod. Everything is reduced in size I believe and that makes the maps seem alot bigger. It does become a problem when you have large ships though since they can screw up the formation of your fleet heavily.
3) Build Tabs / Scroller
This really is a must. The Mods that add new units for the game tend to be so many that you can see them all on the list and there is no way to scroll so you can get to the ones that arent there.
4) Larger Ground Assualt Caps
I really have to say that it is extermly annoying to only be able to bring down 3 - 10 units when you could literally have an entire Fleet worth of ground troops and still lose because the defenders can take the landing zone.
5) Larger Galaxy
Having more planets would be excellent and should be more than possible.
I just got FOC last week and its an ok addition but given the scope of whats available in the Star Wars Saga, its lacking in what it actually adds to an already bleak game.
The only real issue I have with mods that add lots of ships is that it can be awfully difficult to figure out which ships are better than which. The one thing that is good about the base games is that the roles and prices make it clear which ships are the strongest and what role they serve.
Scale mods tend to be rare and even when you do find them, it tends to be a matter of preference for the modder. Its very easy to edit the files for EAW so if you want to change scales then it would be simpler just to do it yourself.

Tch, I wish.
I think the problem with full 3D Star Wars games is just processing power. Warlords is by far the best looking choice but... yeah, it likes to give your CPU a 90lb. rucksack so to speak.
If I put the resolution on Warlords to 800x600, take off all the pretty graphic options, no AA or AF, then.... then the Battle of Endor scenario is doable. (there are balance options, the Empire wtfPWNS the rebel fleet posthaste) The problem is the immensity of battles you're proposing, I've noticed in Warlords and can't imagine why it wouldn't apply to any other Star Wars game, when the shit hits the fan, performance goes way down.
I mean, we're talking
thousands, tens of thousands of TL and ion cannon bolts and torpedoes, etc. etc. Looking at the ship stats for EaW (I don't have the game myself) it's obvious they didn't play the canon-realism card at all, I mean, where are the 60 TL's, 60 Ion Cannon's on the ISD?

Look, you don't need to model EVERY gun for this to work. Leave that for flight sims. Work out relative firepower and scale things down. The dude who makes Warlords is a fucking idiot. There were Star Wars mods for HW1 that didn't run like ass lathered in bacon grease.
All I want is Rebellion 2. That's all.

Lowering the scale of ships is the easiest way to increase the map size. It is easier to do that for larger capitals if you dont need the sub system targeting as well, some mods allow this so that ships cannot be stripped bare and still survive on a single Ion cannon hardpoint thats at 2%
Increaseing the amount of units that can be brought into a battle is certainly doable.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y5/PRE ... /Zann3.jpg
I have had the equivelent of 200 squadrons of fighters in a single Space battle with supporting ISDs and the lag has been considerable but not so much as to make it completley unplayable.
I will admit though I do play it all on the lowest settings anyway - my GC can barely handle EAW so it looks awful.
I imagine with a more powerful system it should hand larger amounts of vessels just as well.
The only real issue with large fleet concentrations is that they end up getting in the way of each other to the point that large ships cause the formation to be spread through out the system when you arrive or the ships at the rear cant get to the target.
Allowing the ability to form some moderate assualt walls of going up and over would certainly be of some use.
As a little issue, I would really like all fighter squadrons to come with the "hunt" option rather than have to micro manage them onto every target.
