yay?
Only took years.
Already have my Collectors edition, will update this post after I play it a bit. I'm guessing it will be really really awesome, or completely horrid.

Waiting for a review :)

But I suspect that it will blow and suck very hard.

My brother got it today. Waiting patiently to play it.

Wow

And I already assumed it went the way of the Duke.

Curious about reviews. I'm not having high hopes but you never know

Gamespot have already given it a 8.5.

Which, is a damn good start.

Considering the highest scores were in gameplay and value, it is indeed

At some point I just adopted the "just wait till its released" approach. When its done its done. If not, then no biggie.

I now pity all those overhyped bastards acting like dope junkies badly needing their fix. Those are the people who litter the forums of unreleased games, acting like drug addicts and reacting violently to every suggestion that it "may not get released at all" or "when it's done it's done".

Took long enough. On another note, after work tomorrow, to the markets, to acquire the game, and tide myself over for Spore!

Wow...
It's pretty damn confusing at first, especially because of mission objectives only appearing at certain times. It's really hard to describe... so I'll just say:

I'v never played an FPS like Stalker, it's completely different.... in a good way. The RPG elements are done very well; no actual leveling up, just money from quests to buy gear and to unlock new areas by helping you avoid obstacles, I actually went back to the area where you kill some people for the first part of the story chain later, and there was mutant dogs dragging the bodies around etc.

Very cool game.

Huh. I had written this game off, but after this thread, I might pick it up this weekend.

How is the plot? Is it as stupid as it sounds?

Edit: The gameplay better make up for the retarded plot.

You edited to say the same thing twice? Clearly, 'magic chernobyl' is bad in a way 'boo scary girl' and 'aliens from Mars' isn't. :)

So long as it's freeform I'm interested. Since they ditched many of the interesting features, I hope it's still nice and open.

I've been following this since the Uk PC Gamer preview in Febuary 2005. The review this issue gave it 87%, with few drawbacks; mainly the only problem is that it didn't pull through on some of it's impossible promises. Regardless, definitely looking to get this ASAP, especially since I've already directed a film based on the premise... :)

Hey, I always thought the plot was the most interesting aspect of STALKER...

I tried playing this game. I shoot the fucking bandits and they do not die. I am close enough to reach them with my automatic rifle. To me, the game is just too fucking difficult.

I was waiting for the board thread before I bought it. I'll keep watch. And as for the complaints that the interesting features got removed, you're probably not the only one with them and some of those people who have them can probably code them back in as mods.

Man, fuck you and your Collector's Edition.

I tried to order it online, but Play.com doesn't ship to the US. :(

Oh well, the US version is $20 cheaper. I can settle for it. But it had better be on a goddamn DVD-ROM. 10 gigs is a lot of CDs.

Is it out in AU already? I thought it was Friday? 'Meet in the city for coffee' just turned into 'yah yah coffee but now STALKER is out'. :)

Yeah, it's out here. I've got the tin collector's box and everything.

Unfortunately, the game has crashed on me (the bad kind- not CTD, but crash and then alt-tab/ alt-ctrl-del/ anything to get back to my fucking desktop) twice in under an hour of play, which is very frustrating. I'm annoyed and have been put off further play for the moment.

Yeah, I've heard about the technical issues - apparently it's worse under Vista. I'm kinda hoping my old hardware and trusty XP will somehow protect me from this. :)

Well I use XP and it's not helping me any. Grr.

The atmosphere in this game is Pure Win. The side quests seem boring though.
