Dual-booting XP with Vista

I have tried time and time again to dual-boot XP on my Vista machine. I found a
great tutorial and followed it step by step. XP completes the initial file copying, but fucking bombs when the gui installation process begins. I keep getting an I/O error which, when reviewing the error further, states that "I:\I386\asms cannot be found". What is pissing me off is that the fucking XP Setup thinks that my goddamn CD/DVD drive is the I drive. It is not. My CD/DVD drive is in fact the D drive.
Has anyone here successfully dual-booted XP through Vista? If so, could you please help me? Most of the shit I found on google is fucking dual-booting XP with Vista Beta.

I just tried installing XP from scratch. I formatted the drive that had Vista on it. The GUI setup just stays at "39 minutes remaining". I ejected the disc on purpose. I got an error. I looked at the log to see what was going on, and the fucking shit was trying to access the J drive. THERE IS NO FUCKING J DRIVE!!!!! It is too late to return this piece of shit.

Is your install media corrupted? Do you have the proper storage drivers available if need be?

Do you have any internal Media Card readers?
Windows can detect them before CD/DVD drives and assign them lower drive letters (ie say d to g for a multi reader) which can cause the optical drive to be assigned a higher letter, such as the I or J you describe.
However the file error you describe in the first post does sound like a damaged disc problem.

About the damaged disc. There was a scratch on the media. I tried making an image of the disc with Alcohol 120%. Disc read error. That may have been the problem. I am trying another XP disc at this moment. I will post an update if it works. Thanks for your help.

XP Pro finally installed. I guess the problem was with the disk. Except I cannot dual-boot. Now if I can only convince my brother to use XP instead of Vista.
