After almost a year of ownership, I finally got around to de-fragging my newer computer...everything was on track, until I hit a snag, and it's been stuck on one particular file and percentage going on 6 hours now. Sitting at 52%...progress was steady and smooth until it hit this spot. Is it safe to stop the de-frag and start over?

I apologize if this is a elementary question, but I don't know my way around that kind of maintenance much.

Yes. Stop it, run a full scandisk, and then once the scandisk is complete, try to run the defrag again.
