This is for you guild wars fans (and I know your out there)

I'm pretty sure this isn't a rumor because I looked into it well enough

But apparently NC soft is actually making an expanision to guild wars not a stand alone game but this time an actual expansion called "Guild Wars - Eye of the North" AKA Guild Wars 2

Basically I want to see what you guys think of the game so here is some more info on it. I look foward to teaming up on some missions with you guys

Eye of the North(GWEN if you just use Guild Wars and the letters from the major words), is an expansion, but one designed for characters you actually got really far along the path. Guild Wars 2 is another actual game which, to my understanding, will let you move along another axis and choose one of four races in addition to human.

As for campaigns, Prophecy is too long, Factions is like trying to open a stuck pickle jar with one hand and Nightfall just kinda burns my eyes after a while from the colors, although it is fun. Hard to make a decisions amongst which is my favorite.

Isn't GW2 also raising the level cap way up, thus removing the only thing that set GW apart (ie, no grinding)?

Personally I hate desert areas in games, so that rules out nightfall, especially with the lack of fun missions. Prophesies is mainly too easy because of the slow level progression, meaning only the Thunderhead keep mission is any fun. The 16 man missions in Factions have always been fun for me, so I prefer Factions. I'm not going to consider voting for GWEN until we at least get to see its beta.
Stark wrote:Isn't GW2 also raising the level cap way up, thus removing the only thing that set GW apart (ie, no grinding)?
They are raising the level cap, but that doesn't mean that it will introduce grinding. Its possible that players will reach max stats* before they finish the PvE storyline without having to grind their way there, but thats doubtful. But even if it requires grinding, there is still hope that ANET will allow people to completely change build in towns instead of being stuck on one path. Especially since doing that means people don't get screwed over when the game gets rebalanced, except for people using highly specialized farming builds.

Though on the up side, unlike MMOs where you pay per month, ANET doesn't really have any motive to keep people grinding.

*One of the things that regularly comes up on the fansites is people wanting the level cap to be raised. When that gets shot down, they suggest keeping the stats maxing at 20 but keep the level number increasing. So having a high level cap, even if the level number is meaningless, in GW2 is exactly what a lot of guild wars players have been asking for.

Factions was my favorite, the reasons being that it was darker than the others and that they were (in my opinion) too easy. I don't want to fight in the Custom Elite Badass Area to be challenged, whilst mowing down everyone else. I want to feel like I am actually fighting real enemies that are a credible threat. Endbosses that don't rely on +99999999 hp and super-abilites that you can never get would also be great, but that's a rant for another thread.

Factions is my favorite so far. I really like the different styles of the Canthans, Kurzicks, and Luxons. Getting leveling out of the way immediately is also a big plus.

I was most immersed when playing through Prophecies.

It lags for me at the first fight right after I come out of town, at every town but is fine after that.

Sorry to reply so late, but this really confuses me. People honestly want the level cap to go up... but you won't get anything or need those levels at all? In all seriousness, are these people mentally ill? What's the point of a level if it doesn't give you stats? Does it make Diablo-gene people 'feel better' or something?

I think with the addons so far they're going in the right direction - ie, get to max stats fast, and just enjoy playing the game and fighting people. If there is ever grinding in Guild Wars, even if it's still free, I'll never play it again. I've got Age of Conan coming for that. :)

Yeah but it's dead.

Tasoth's and Ard-Adunkahor's guild is still recruiting, and isn't dead either. We've got 21 members now, most active. If anybody is interested add Anera Whirl to talk to me. I finally gave in and got prophecies, so now I've got all 3 games, and our guild does a bit of pve, pvp, whenever. We're active later at night, with most of our pvp active 10:00 PM+, though there's always losers like me online at strange times. If you've never pvped before ever and just killed monsters, we can help.

Best story was Prophecies, best for PvP probably Factions because of alliance battle. Best for PvE Nightfall because of heroes. Depends on what you like, hard for me to choose because depending on my mood pvp sucks or it rules.

Having extra levels even if it doesn't do anything makes people feel better because it helps give them a sense of accomplishment. It's better than just giving a skill point because you can show off your accomplishment ("look at me! I'm a level 80!")

Posted: 2007-04-24 11:13pm
by Stark
But it's an EMPTY accomplishment, and the game ALREADY supports real accomplishments like PvE and PvP victories. Level is meaningless, and will remain meaningless if they tack more on but leave stat max at 20. Nobody will care about zomg teh level 80s, it just means they play more... the very thing GW doesn't reward! :)

Why don't they just allow people to show their skill points? I never use them, and I imagine they're only really useful if you try to get all class skills for one character, but that's the only reward of post-20 levelling and it's pretty irrelevant to me. If they raise the level limit instead, I can only imagine the amount of noobs wondering if they 'need level 50 for this' in general, and people talking about this new irrelevant feature. :)

how will that affect pvp action with the guys who don't get the expansion anyone know

If they want to let people show off they can do a lot more with a patch.

Let people show off the color of their weapons when they ctrl-click the weapon quickslot. Right now you can't tell whether someone has a gold or a blue on them.

Let you unlock advanced PvE armors for PvP with Balthazar Faction. Also they should let us unlock different kinds of pets. I don't see any reason why PvPers shouldn't care about the look of their character as much as anybody else. Everything available in PvE should be unlockable in PvP.

Build in a voice chat system. If something old and shit like Counterstrike has it, so should guild wars. There shouldn't be a need for external voice chat like ventrillo just to be competitive in pvp.

A better guild system. In the alliance tab, you should be able to check how many members are online in a guild in your alliance. You should be able to search out for guilds somewhere, in some kind of guild house. You should be able to make a guild bio somewhere, and advertise somewhere. The leader should be able to make as many ranks and titles as he wants.

A player history system. Titles are okay but don't tell enough. Instead there could be an extensive player history available to someone who wants to see it (that may be private on choice) such as numer of hours online, number of hours spent PvPing/PvEing, number of skills unlocked, etc. This should be impossible to fake.

Build in a player message system for offline messages. Better yet, some kind of online bulletin board. MOTD's only accessible by officers and basically forces message boards and so on, a cumbersome way of communication.

Make hero's ascent back to six players. I haven't played much HA, but it seems to me 8 man hero's ascent is pretty stupid. The more people there are, the less skill there is. The difference between GvG and HA shouldn't be just maps, it could be skill as well.

Full unlock of all PvP areas to a new PvP character. I mean seriously, why do you have to win five in a row in RA then five in TA to get to HA. The transition from PvE to PvP is not very smooth either. Once you unlock for an account then it's always unlocked, but it's pretty stupid for a player brand new to the game to look at a map and say, I've only got three places. And not really know what to do either. There's no tutorial, no shit: you're just dropped off in the temple and expected to fumble your way around the game until you figure it out in PvP.

Better rotation of alliance battle maps. My PvE characters have access to places like Jade Quarry, Lutzgardis Conservatory, etc., that are only available when the Kurzicks or Luxons are pushed so far back. It's really stupid to play the same two maps over and over, and it's why alliance battle isn't as good as it should be.

An arena like Random Arena which matches you up with players of similar skill, but is still random. Achieved through some kind of personal rank.

I'd like to see a player run store\auction with a search function if you are looking for a particular item. I've got two minipets to unload and I hate to run around spamming people into buying my stuff.

I like Prophecies best. Several good guys get killed and the long campaign is an advantage if you ask me. It also has the best story of the three.

Your not the only one wanting an auction house. Also a while back ANET invited some prominent members of the guild wars community to visit their offices, including Billiard who is the leader of the guild wars section of Xen of Onslaught (the alliance I'm with). When he talked about the trip on the guru forums, he also said this:
The auction house question actually came up again later when one of the Spanish guys asked about it again. At that time James said "its on the way." So I said okay its on the way - cool, then James amended his statement to say not to indicate it was coming in the next month.
Now I know Billiard well enough to believe him when he said that. I don't really care if you do or not, but this is the closest we have to ANET saying anything about an auction house.

Also, which minis are you selling, as there are a few I want ?

Are you listening? Apparently the extra levels won't increase stats at all: they will have no game effect beyond lameo bragging rights.

The auction house thing is actually pretty funny - some people even argue the game is better without one!

One I have is a Miniature Asura (I got it from the recent PC Gamer mag) and a Miniature Fungal Wallow.

I know but it said stats as in attributes (I think) but I was thinking more on the lines of health and energy

Auction house is a good idea lol. I tried selling something for the first time in years, and remembered how annoying it was.

We beat shiro in factions on hard mode the other day. Brought two zenmais, a player necro, a player ritualist, koss, zhed, devona and one of the fighter henchmen. Hahahaha.

If there is one thing they got to work on, it is making what they're best at better, or changing guild wars entirely to be more immersive so their PvE isn't laughed at. What they're best at, PvP, so add in voice chat at the very least. More immersive, aggro is fucking stupid, so is reading text, hire better voice actors and I shouldn't have to read paragraphs of text to figure the story out. And the story shouldn't be lame and have mary sues like Koromir either. Prophecies had a better story, but I don't want a prophecies clone, I wouldn't mind something totally different.

Let me just say that god damn I hate Kormir. She singlehandedly made what was getting to be a pretty neat little story of dead gods and such a fucking tour de suck.
