Okay this has been in my backburner for a while, how do you deploy computers in your organisation?

I used to gost and shit, but nowdays I will not toutch anything symantec if I dont have to.

My prefered metod of cloning computers is BartPE with the DriveImage XML plugin

Bart PE also has other neat stuff like RDP but best of all, it is FREE :)

So do any of you use something like this?

I've used it but it doesn't really scale like Ghost Enterprise does.

We've used Symantec Ghost for years at the school district. What's wrong with Symantec?

Lately we've been looking into moving over to LANDesk, moreso for other features that it offers, although if all goes well we might eventually abandon Ghost.

I love Bootit NG
free, useful and easy (fairly fast too, compared to other cloning software I've used)

Looks to me like there's a pricetag of $38.94 for their imaging utility, which seems like approximately $38.94 greater than "free".

Not large enuff to need that, 4 sites two countys and ~400pc.

Symantec wanted somthing like 60,000kr for that 0kr is a better deal and worth taking one or two calls about "how do I boot the cd", "I applied the wrong image, now what?" and so on.

PXE. We've got a server with a bunch of different images. We can plug any box into the network, hit F12 during boot, type in our username and password, and image it.

We're the corporate offices, but some of our other locations use Ghost. Unlike Ghost, PXE requires no CDs though, at all. Although I hear Ghost has other capabilities that make it superior in other ways, but I haven't gotten to play with it much myself.

Fortunately, I'm not implementation, so i arely deploy shit in larges numbers. When a drive has to be created or re-imaged, I use Ghost, however.

If all you're doing is cloning, The free utility does include imaging with fewer features (plenty of features for a simple clone/ghost operation)

When I was still in the military and working computers from 2000-2003 we used Symantec Ghost to re-image and roll out Windows XP. I don't know what their using now but given their conservative attitude and licensing issues their probably using the same thing.
