About to do an OS reinstall

So I'm going to be reformatting my windows partition and reinstalling before I go ahead and install Unbuntu in a week or so. My question is should I create an image of my install as it is now, or install from the CD. Both methods have pros and cons. An image install as it is now will still have much of the bloat that I've built up over the past 8 months, but is fast and easy. A CD install is more time consuming, but has the advantage of being totally clean. Some might say too clean though.

Perhaps once I get windows reinstalled along with all the drivers, then I should make the image for future use?

Why not do both?
I've got an image of my current install with all drivers and apps in case I have a crash, and I've got an image of a bare OS install with only the chipset, ethernet, and sound drivers (notice that I didn't install video drivers, as these get updated a lot), along with being fully updated from windows update, in case I ever want to start 'clean' without having to go through the hassle of reactivating and then spending time waiting for winupdate to download 50 or so patches.

I'll probably create a number of images after I reinstall. Since I'll be screwing around with the partition table, my brother suggested that I go fresh from CD, so that looks like what I'll do.
