Should I upgrade my BIOS?

I have an nx9010 with the KH.F.09 BIOS. Newest version is KH.F.25. Common sense says I should upgrade, but I don't want to brick this laptop.

Is it generally safe to do this?

With newer computers, much safer than it was with the old style, boot from floppy things.

That'd be very comforting if HP didn't recommend upgrading via floppy because the Windows-based updater is flaky :?

Update your BIOS from a floppy. Never do it from Windows - I tried it once, and it ended up turning my motherboard into useless scrap.

The reason I'd update is because I've been told the newer BIOS handles the fans far more efficiently and because it *might* fix a problem with Linux thinking there's a non-existant heat problem. Believe you me, I wouldn't even think about messing with the BIOS for no reason.

Can't say that I've had a problem flashing from wnidows with any computer I've had in the last 5 or 6 years. Thuogh my old Gigabyte socket A included a second bios chip, I suppose as a safeguard against such accidents, but that was some 5 years ago. I haven't had a computer with a floppy drive in the last 4 years, do people even get them in computers anymore?

I got a floppy drive, only because it came with card readers, but that's beside the point because my mobo only updates by a windows (or possibly linux) flash program. I only updated my BIOS when I had a problem. If you don't have a problem, probably better not to update your BIOS.
