The better choice?: Xbox 360 vs. Wii

Which should I buy? I'm in the market for a new console. The last system I owned was an Xbox and I have a few games for it. I simply want a system that will give me several years of good gaming enjoyment.
I really do want to play Halo 3 and Dead Rising, but I also love the Wii's controls & novelty. So what you say you SDN?
Keep in mind, the price for the two systems will be roughly equal, since my roommate will be going half on the 360 if I choose that.

It comes down to what you want to play. Wii games are largely about fun with other people, games that you can pick up and play in a social setting with relative ease. If you have a good core of friends that will be over at your place often enough, get the Wii, and when they're not their, pop in the games like Metroid and Zelda that you can have loads of fun with on your own.
If you're more for the usual console fare, and you have a good TV, get the 360. The games look beautiful even without HD, and they can be a lot of fun. Plus if you have other friends with 360's and Xbox Live, you can play with them with a minimum of fuss. Co-Op games by splitscreen and Live are loads of fun. Since your roomie is involved, remember to buy lots of games with co-op modes, particularly co-op campaigns, like Gears of War, Rainbow Six: Vegas, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, or Halo.
Either way, you'll have plenty of people on SDN to play with online.

Not many good games out for the WII right now.
The only playable games is Zelda and wii sports, but I am sure that there will be plenty of good games soon.

Weren't those the games it had at launch? Wasn't that months ago?
Personally, I've had some fun with the 360 my roommates got and having a big HD tv makes it all the better. Generally I dislike consoles, but I had plenty of fun with Gears of War co-op on the easier difficulty settings (I'll never get the hang of those controls.)

The choice should be clear:

There are a decent amount of Wii game out there you really don't hear about some of them. Like SSX Blur and WarioWare: Smooth Moves these are good games. As oppose to the lauch titles Excite Truck (which had minor bugs or the controller was fucked up) and Rayman Raving Rabits were also good. Especially with the games coming out this summer like Metroid and Mario Strikers Charged (I am very curious to see how this game is going to work) so with what you have now and what you have to look foward to the Wii is the obvious choice.

So Nintendo won't just keep you from getting laid, it will actively tease you by teleporting strippers to your place to have sex with the wiimote in front of you? Yeah, that's awesome.

You missed the best part, your flatscreen will devolve into a CRT.

[Vader]NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!![/Vader]
Clearly, they sold the flatscreen to pay for the hookers, and instead of having SEX, they played the Wii. THE WII MAKES YOU FUCKING RETARDED! OFFICIAL CARTOON PROVES IT!

To be honest, it's going to be a while before there are a good amount of quality single-player titles for the Wii. (Unless you never owned a Gamecube.)
So if multiplayer isn't your main focus, get a 360.

Or if you want to play online.
I haven't touched my Wii since February, there's that big a dearth of games I want for it. All the ones that were supposed to be the shining future of games turned out to be disposable and ass like Red Steel.

They're extremely different.
What kind of games do you prefer?
Does an online Super Smash Bros make you drool, or shrug?
Weren't those the games it had at launch? Wasn't that months ago?
Excite Truck was also at launch, and was also awesome. Super Paper Mario just came out, and is EXTREMELY awesome. And Mario Party 8 is coming out next week.
But right now we're having a summer games drought. The reality is that almost everybody jumped on the Wii bandwagon AFTER it did well at E3 06 and launch, so most third parties are late to the game and scrambling to come up with Wii titles.
Metroid Prime 3 comes out in August. Pokemon Battle Revolution (online), Super Mario Strikers Charged (online and with LAN) and Batallion Wars 2 (also online and LAN) come out in July. Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros Brawl, and Mario & Sonic at the Olympics come out around November.
To quote a post I made earlier:
With Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros Brawl, Super Mario Strikers Charged, Mario Party 8, Mario & Sonic At The Olympics, Batallion Wars II, Metroid Prime 3, Manhunt 2, Pokemon Battle Revolution, Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition, Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles, Guitar Hero III, an exclusive Tony Hawk game, NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams, Wii Music, Soul Calibur Legends, Fire Emblem, Dance Dance Revolution Hottest Party, and several other major titles all due in 2007, and multiple Final Fantasy titles, a Kirby game, and a ton more games to be announced at E3 '07 due in 2008...
The Wii's going to do fine.
Of all the games I listed there, Guitar Hero III is the only multiplatform game, and Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition is the only port.
The Wii's going to have a nice lineup by the year end.
Choose based on whether or not that list I posted looks appealing, or if you'd rather have Halo 3.

If you didn't get Super Paper Mario, then you should be ashamed.

I bought a Wii last night. It is rather awesome. The XBox 360, on the other hand, as far as I can tell, is the least interesting of the seventh generation consoles, by far, as it is the least enabled in terms of doing things other than gaming. I consider myself a casual gamer, and the Wii addresses my needs as a casual gamer brilliantly, by providing a mix of light recreation type games, internet access, and the most delightful user interface I've ever experienced.

I got an Xbox 360 for Christmas and it’s awesome, but then on the first of this month I got a Wii, and now I scarily play my 360. However that’s going to chance once Halo 3 comes out…..
It all boils down to what you’re into.

Us Brits still can't get Super Paper Mario and won't be able to for at least another two fucking months - so it's still entirely a
paper hit to us, oh ho!
Seriously though, I bought a Wii at launch and currently have Zelda, Wario, Rayman and Metal Slug for it - the next games coming out that I want are months away.
I just bought a 360 a couple of weeks ago with Gears of War, Crackdown and Ghost Recon 2 and have been having immense fun with it. And there's already a huge list of games I want to get for it, with loads more coming out. The operating software for the 360 and the online delivery of content also makes Nintendo's attempt at the same look like a joke. A word of warning though - almost every 360 game that is on my "looks good" list is a shooter - so if your not into shooters your pickings may be slimmer.

How does that work?
Something like this?

So we pretty much agreed that Super Paper Mario is the best game out there for the Wii. But do you like the series better with the turnbase elements (with the earlier games) or the platforming elements? (like in the new one)
Who would have thought that a Mario RPG game would be good?
Paper cover rock bitch!!!

He lives in Other. They didn't even get D/P yet.

I thought Zelda sucked, actually. Just Another Zelda Game, and it seemed to unnecessarily look like poo.
Like Vendetta I haven't really used my Wii in months. I think Godfather is neat, Elebits is fun, Wario is disturbing but fun... but many of the games I've tried don't really 'work' too well (ie Cooking Mama, ruined by poor design decisions, Rayman is worthless without a Wario-style random mode). Then again I'm PAL, and we get totally raped in releases, and none of the games I wanted when I bought it (Smash brothers, Metroid, etc) is even out yet.
On the other hand I still haven't found a third 360 game yet. Vegas got old, I thought Lost Planet was awful, I'm too far through Oblivion after renting it to buy it, etc. There are 360 games I want coming (sadly, even the Transformers game), but I haven't found much that's out now. Samurai Empires 2 was a direct PS2 port, I finised far too much of Crackdown in three days (and the only part that was good was the voiceover guy saying 'INCREASE YOUR KILLING POWER').
So I'm ambivalent. I use my 360 primarily to play media on my telly, and one fucking day when they release more GH2 download songs and A SEPARATE FUCKING CONTROLLER SO I CAN FUCKING PLAY FUCKING MULTI I might play it again. But with mates, banging out the Wii games is awesome and requires no real learning curve.
