DS - I need a game!

I need a DS game. It requires several things:
Persistant world - I want to develop a character/follow an adventure/whatever
Saveable gameplay - I will be playing in bursts of no more than 30 minutes, thus I want to be able to save when and where required or have save points at VERY regular intervals.
It shouldn't suck - Fairly straight forward.

Are the DS pokemon games better than the GiBA ones? The GBA ones played like GB games, but the DS ones look somewhat more interesting.

What you are asking for is basically Pokemon Diamond/Pearl they are kind of better than the other ones. The games have a decent amount of new features. If not Pokemon then get Spectrobes it is a bit of a Pokemon rip off in some ways but it's still a good game.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. That is all.

Castlevania for the win?
Hotel Dusk: Room 215 seems pretty cool as well

Dude he's clearly looking for an RPG sort of thing with a 'persistent world', not an e-book like HD or PW.

Meh, Phoenix Wright is awesome enough that it shouldn't make too much of a difference. I was skeptical when I got it but now I'm hooked.

What ever happened to that Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass did that ever come out or do I have some time to wait for it?

You have to wait for about 6 more months. Or whenever Nintendo decides to release it.

Also hell short - if he's playing it on a half-hour commute, he'll be done in a week. I don't think that's what he's looking for.
The Pokemon games will last him fucking AGES, and then he's got multi and the trade-up to Pokemon Battle Stadium on Wii. I mean Pokemon is super lame shit, but the Stadium games on 64 were actually piles of fun, so I'm thinking about getting the DS game myself.
Oh hey are there any Pokemon freaks on SDN? I hear there are heaps of dudes you can only get through trade, and I like the little Gecko dude from the last set of Pokemon games...

Haha, Stark's gotta catch 'em all.
Trace Memory is good but it only lasts like five hours.

I own both Trace Memory and Phoneix Wright and didn't bother to finish either of them...yet. The former is a so-so adventure game with a meandering and dull plot, the latter has a boatload of charisma but crashes and burns thanks to illogical puzzles and a complete lack of interactivity, even for an adventure game.
Bassed on my experiences with the past games and the reviews I've read, I can recommend Pokémon. I will buy it myself once it's released here - the GB games consistently delivered excellent handheld RPG's. Don't listen to cranky whiners who call the games "lame"

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow.. maybe. It's somewhat small, but good enough.
Oh and Pheonix Wright is evil. I blame it for Jack Thompson. They're both lawyers, see? My logic is flawless.

I'd also recommend Advance Wars DS, except that, while it has a story, it's very threadbare and probably not the consistent world you're looking for. It is, however, a brilliantly addictive game that's perfect for thirty-minute bursts.

Puzzle Quest for the DS is cartridge heroin and it will last you forever.

Final Fantasy covers all of them, and between DS and GBA (which the DS can play) there's several to chose from.

Pokemon, Final Fantasy III, and Advance Wars are all great choices (though Advance Wars is not very character-oriented or adventure).
While it doesn't meet your first requirement, I highly recommend Elite Beat Agents. It's one of the most fun games on the platform, I can't stop playing it. It's got the saveable gameplay and does't suck at least

Final Fantasy III does however have the annoying flaw of having no save points in dungeons. And they can be quite lengthy and difficult.

There is a Pokemon thread I made. Use it for trading friend codes and such.
