I hate that damn Haunted Hotel mission. It's just so fucking scary, even when I know exactly what happens, I'm at next to no risk of death, I've got all the lights on, the heater is keeping me warm, yet I still get shivers up my spine.
This sucks.

And that, good sir, is why that's the best damn part of the game.

I know! I just wish I could put an MP3 on while I played it - something unbelievably gay and happy ...
Oh! I know! Staying Alive!

The Bee Gees are Teh Anti-Haunting. Effects negated. Now ... erm ... Ooh! Blondie!

I didn't find the Haunted Hotel mission to be terribly scary. Bizarre, because that kind of thing normally scares the shit out of me. The Shalebridge Cradle in Thief III had such an effect on my that I don't like to even think about it... so I cannot say why I didn't mind that one. The abandoned hospital later in the game did freak me out somewhat though.

Shalebridge Cradle....Brrrr! That was one real creepy mission, that. Scariest shit I've seen/heard/read anywhere where horror is concerned.

I nearly peed my pants when I did that mission the first time ... I had the earphones on. Still scares me, and I do it with the sound off now.
I'm such a wuss.

"Oh no, you've been here too long! The Cradle remembers you now!"
There's a superb article
here (pdf file at the bottom) written by Kieron Gillen of PC Gamer UK on the Cradle. It's a thorough, indepth look at the story and creation of the level, and it'll bring back those bad old memories.

That level was alright. Mostly, I was irked at how pathetic the lamps and stuff attacking me were. It was only interesting at the end where the CEILING AND FLOOR try and kill you,but at that point the level design was so confusing, I wanted to cry.

I was hoping this thread would be a gripe about the same problem I had with the game, namely that it wouldn't work, even after patching, new graphics card and another 512 of RAM.

Yeah the Hotel is annoying. I keep making new characters start playing, get up to the Hotel, get lost in it, and stop.
I want to eat people! Not wander around.

I didn't really have a problem with the level design, it seemed to make sense to me, every time I played.
When I first played V:TM, my PC couldn't handle it very well - it would stall during play, the frame rate wasn't the best, and it'd crash. However, on this PC with the new 3.7 unofficial patch, it runs like a dream.

God that mission creeped the shit out of me so much the rest of the game just seemed like Disneyland to me.

Man, what about the film studio?
Or the WEREWOLF?

Those were less scary because you had something concrete to hit/flee.

The Werewolf was a lot worse, since he was an ungodly killing machine.
Until at least, you realized he has issues fitting through doorways.

I especially liked that he would still attack you even after you 'beat' him if you came too close.
He is only stuck, not dead.

The Haunted Hotel quest is better than the entire game of F.E.A.R
Did anyone else dislike the ending of Bloodlines though ? Most of the game is easily best RPG experience I had. But the sudden unexpected ending blows, you never find out what was in that sarcophogus. You never see Gehena happen or witness any of the supernatural Prophecies. Throughout the game it prepared the player for imminant apocalypse and doom. And then when all the plots seemed to be coming togather it suddenly ended without any resolution whatsoever. Its worse then the KoToR 2 ending or Republic Commando endings.

FEAR didn't strike me as a horror game. It was pure action movie with some "spookshow" set pieces.

I don't remember the ending (three years ago and all - god it doesn't feel that long ago!) so ...

You do find out what was in the coffin though. After the Prince's tower blows up, it cuts to Jack sitting in a lawn chair with a mummy sitting next to him. Presumably it came from the sarcophogus. I believe he even calls it by name.

Exactly and Beckett didn't want you to open the thing because he must have guessed that Jack had put a bomb in it.
