This is a movie based mod, and it look pretty decent with only one person on the 'team'.

This is what Battle for middle earth should be about!

I'll look into it more when the mod creator can be assed to make sure his screenshots don't link to 404's.

I always thought the Total War engine would be a far better platform for the LOTR computer games than the bog-standard RTS engine they're using for those BFME games. When the Charge of the Rohirrim is like 30 horses (and that's actually a really big charge in those games), you just don't get that feeling of scale that LOTR is supposed to have.

That's pretty impressive- shouldn't they really be using the M2TW engine though?

I played a demo of this a while ago, it was pretty impressive. What progress has been made with the actual game components? Is it still just limited to instant battles or have they finished the campaign map?

There's really no official team at all. Most of the work is done by one person only. And he has spent more than a year in creating a mod...so do cut him some slack. It's going to be hard for him to change engine now and alone.

Not totally sure, he stated that he was allowed to use the campaign for another LOTR mod, which follows the book only and ignored whatever design or etc. used in the movies. But then, the campaign should be ok, since there's really not much strategic change between the movie and the book.

Edit: ADD

Another thing I've heard that is the creater has expanded the game and included many other battles. Expanded by how much? I'm not sure because I did not download the demo.

The forum has a screenshot thread with some nice images of Cavalry charge vs Oliphants... plus massed orc hordes etc...

Looks alright and I can actually play Rome (as opposed to M2:TW which I can't) *starts d/ling it*

EDIT: oh it looks like it also has some invincible fluorescent green anti-orc troops god only knows how they don't break game mechanics...

Bumped it because I need to ask a question about this mod.

Does all the version needs alexander expansion? I only have rome total war and barbarian invasion...so whenever I install it...it always end up with some sort of error...

Just had a quick look in the foums and it seems that 2.0, which is the one with the campaign map, does need Alexander.

Which is a downer. I'm gonna have to pick it up some time.

I think I prefer the Fourth Age mod.
