Pokemon Battle Revolution (Wii)

Post by DarkSilver »

So PBR comes out today, according to my local gamestop, though Wikipedia says yesterday).

I intend to pick it up this afternoon, and give a review of it then. Apparently, as well as post my friendcode and what not for it.....

My lvl 100 Charizard from Pearl will be ready to roast people soon...who else is getting it?

Oh, I'll be getting it as soon as I can get my claws on an actual Wii console, which is more or less proving impossible to find in my area (the demand far, far outstrips the meager supplies sent to the local retail chains, I'm afraid). Until then, buying the game without a console to play it on seems somewhat superfluous.

Bah, who needs a Charizard when you've got a modest Salamence with Draco Meteor, Dragon Pulse, Fire Blast and Hydro Pump? :P One of the best bloody special sweepers in the game, let me tell you... although it is becoming distressingly common these days, and Ice Beam will make short work of it.

I'm not going to get it immediately, but soon enough.

And DarkSilver, if Battle Revolution has the same scaling features as Wifi on DS, there's no need to get them up to level 100 anyway. :P

But.....he was Level 100 already.....

Anyway...time for a short ten minute review...

So I popped in my copy of PBR, and entered into the world of Pokemon once more...

---- o ----

The line was long at the Poketeopia Airline Terminal, but they made up for it by giving us free peanuts and coke on the flight over. The Stewardesses was all very nice, and one had a great rack. I wonder if she'll be on the return flight....

Anyway, as we approached Poketopia Island Airport, the Stewardess informed us we should make a Profile before we touch down - so I did. I hate these phonepads they had us use..thought they would have given us a keyboard at least.

So I deboard the plane....and wouldn't you know it, they lost my damn luggage. Bastards. They always lose my luggage. Next time I'm taking the cruise ship.

So I report my lost luggage, check into my hotel and head to the most awesomest Pokemon Theme Park in all of the world, Poketopia!

The lady at the gate gave me the run through, and since it was my first visit, it was kinda helpful. She even gave me a free rental pass! So also informed me of the various things I could do here, so I listened intently, (ok, so I yawned a couple times, but it was helpful...). I was glad I brought my DS with me on the plane, it wasn't lost with the rest of my luggage, and I was able to access my Sinnoh Storage Boxes and have them sent to the Poketopia Storage System.

After all that was done, I went about creating two battle passes (different Teams) to mess around with in the collesiums. My first match I decided to try out the Wifi option, and soon was battling in a 3 on 3 matchup with someone from across the world. Very fun it was.

His Palkia managed to take out my Mewtwo and severly damage my Snorlax, while his Infernape managed to finish off my Snorlax and my Venusaur. I noticed despite my Pokemon all being lvl 60+, the Poketopia battle system auto-limited them back down to 50 for the wifi battle.....

Since I still had a bit of Jetlag, I decided to head back to my hotel room, and grab some sleep, I'll mess around with it some more after a nap...

---- o ----

Clarification: the pokemon are copied from your copy of Diamond or Pearl, and once you use a copy of the game to transfer pokemon, you can only EVER use that game again on your Wii, unless you delete the system save file.

So my friend code is 2663-9153-6294 . Obviously it's a seperate code form the Wii Friend Code so there ya go Add me bitches, and let's battle...

Are Nintendo really that intent on proving that they have no fucking clue how to offer an online proposition? Seperate non-intuitive numerical codes for every game when the system already has one built in, and runs a friends list from it already?

Really, the Wii friends list is clunky enough as it is, adding even more levels of granularity to friends lists is unacceptable, especially since there's such a good example of how to do it right on the market.

Isn't that friend code simply your friend code from your DS Diamond/Pearl game? I'd imagine it's designed for some kind of inter-operability with that.

So if there are multiple copies of Diamond/Pearl in a household, you cannot use all of the games with PBR?

No, I'm 99% certain it ISN'T your Pearl code. Just like some DS games, PBR apparently has a separate friend-code thing. Which if true is stupid for all the reasons Vendetta mentioned.

Let's see...time to answer questions:

Negative, it's a new code, just for Battle Revolution. You can obtain the PBR Friend code also when you do the random Wifi battles - at the end of the battle, you get the chance to swap friend codes.

Qwerty 42 wrote: So if there are multiple copies of Diamond/Pearl in a household, you cannot use all of the games with PBR?
Technically..it's one copy of Diamond/Pearl per save game/profile, I beleive. But yeah, if you make one profile, and have a copy of diamond, and a copy of pearl, you can only get the Pokemon from one of those games to your profile in PBR.

yep, all depends on the Wii System Memory I beleive, but I think I've seen at least 4 slots.

Oh good, it had originally sounded like you could only use one copy of D/P per Wii.

Since you can get around it anyway (but trading), is there a game reason why they have a limit? In D/P there's the 'lol high-level traded dudes do random shit until you get badges' thing, so maybe it's to stop you having to go through something like that after trading all you're mate's Pokemon into one profile?

This isn't right, btw. What you exchange is a "friend pass", which saves a copy of your opponent's team for AI-controlled offline battle later. There's no way to get a friend code unless it's given to you outside the game.

Nintendo has been intent all during the WFC experiment to show that they are paralytically afraid of the Internet.

Poetically enough, Wiipost

Nintendo's actually more terrified of accusation of liability, which is partially why they've been tip-toeing so much around the issue and integration of Internet play.

iirc, don't they allow for you to create a message to display if you win or lose?

Couldn't that be used to spread friendcodes?

Anyone know if the Japanese D/P is compatible with the English PBR?

You need a Japanese copy to play Japanese PBR, so I assume you need English D/P. Don't know for certain.

Hey, that's a good point: I've got a US DS game myself, but I'll have to use AU PBR.

I don't think there's a difference between the AU and US versions of the DS game, but with the JPN one...I might be in a real bind. I don't really want to have to play through the game again, though I suppose I might better appreciate the plot in English, even if I do read Japanese.

There won't be. Australia is weird. They get GBA and DS games from the US, but home console games from the EU/PAL market.

If there's a regional incompatibility beteween the US DS games and the PAL version of Battle Revolution, Australia is gimped.
