Ace Combat 6 Demo Live.

Played it. As usual, any fans of the series will be immiedietly familiar with the enviornment and gameplay.

1. Enemies are absurdly easy to kill. Though i'm not sure if the demo was playing on lowest difficulty by default.

2. The HUD is way too god damn small. I can barely see any of the numbers and I had no idea how many missles I had left during the entire mission.

3. The game has fit itself perfectly into the 360's controls.

4. The graphics, the enviornments, the ground, the sky, look beautiful.

5. Afterburner spam is still, as always, present in Ace Combat. And as always, I *still* wish they would do something to hold back the player from just gunning his engines the entire time.

6. No more hippie pilots!

All in all, I am thoroughly impressed as usual and will buy it as soon as I can.

Bah. In a game where a fighter can carry 100 missiles, having enough fuel to do a 15 minute mission on nearly continuous afterburner does not bother me.

...and there was much rejoicing.

Enemies were pretty easy to kill... I didn't have a problem with the HUD though, missile count is in the lower-right. You get I think around 40 of those special missiles that lock on to up to 4 targets, and around 80 or 90 of the regular missiles.

I agree with the afterburner though - it shouldn't be that you run out of fuel considering the game, but do two things with it:

Give the Afterburner it's own meter so it can only run for so long and has to recharge

Increase the thrust it gives you so it's more of a significant boost.

Basically, if anyone here played it, do it how Dropship did it.

I've always liked the great plot, does the demo show any of that aspect of the game?

I am saddened that the game will not be available for PS2 users...

Ace Combat is an arcade game, but I'd prefer it not to get any more unrealistic. This is just too much of a suspension of disbelief breaker. Besides complicating the basic game mechanics is something that should be done with extreme caution. If you were going to add in some mysteriously recharging thing I'd rather have anti-missile decoys. Dodging 20 missiles in quick succession would be both a little more realistic and take a little more skill if you had to use carefully timed decoy releases as well as hard maneuvering.

I agree, frankly, it already strains my SoD enough as it is to see the aircraft missles magically matieralize back onto the aircraft after it uses them. While I agree Ace Combat is in no way meant to be realistic, it gets hard to be able suspend disbelief as the absurdities get more numerous and, well, absurd.

If you want a prime example of a game that takes everything too far and blatently shits all over SoD, try out Just Cause.

I was always hoping they'd put in some sort of g-force or blackout effect if you really slam on the scooters. The harder you hit the juice, the smaller your tunnel vision gets or something similar.

Only that there is an incredibly massive battle for your capital city, and you must retreat (so that a counter-attack can be formulated).

You forgot "watch as we fly our fighters flawlessly into your super bases and use precision bombing in impossible situations, while pretentious music blasts".

Haha I love Ace Combat.

I've never thought of the AC soundtracks as "pretentious". Though I make quite the effort to obtain them. *remembers "Blockade" and "Broken Arrows"* :D

Haha of course they are, at least the final mission tracks always are. Massive orchestral pieces with heavy latin chorus, for our generations home version of "After Burner"?

That said, they ARE awesome soundtracks, especially said pretentious tracks :P
