What I wanna know is if your Vader's apprentice WHY are you fighting the Empire!?
I'm off to do some research on this.

That was what I wanted to know, actually. I guess there's probably a light side story path later on in the game that would bring you into opposition with the Empire, but that still doesn't explain why, with the exception of a handful of Jedi "bosses" (and rancors), no other types of enemy NPCs have been shown or discussed.
Oh, and I had postulated that the whole "single Dark Jedi bringing down a star destroyer by himself" was just a out-there idea from the concept art. Apparently, I was wrong.

If read on Wiki, MIND YOU IT IS WIKI that they may have done it soly to show off the game engines and for WOW cool effect.

It's already been explained. You're
Darth Vader's
secret apprentice. Think about it for more than two seconds.

Vader did say that the Death Star's power is insignificant with respect to the power of the Force. Bringing down a Star Destroyer might not be an impossible task if you're not getting shot by it.

I hear when Clone Wars cartoon shows Yoda crashing landing ships together and Mace punching robots, it's absolutely disgusting irredeemable comic-book wank.
But I hear this game is going to be awesome.

Actually I thought it was awesome.
But I hear this game is going to be awesome.
What does wanked out force powers (hence ... the title of the game ...) have to do with whether the game is any good or not?

That's what we need! Another Star Wars game featuring a pile of shit that isn't from Star Wars at all! We don't have enough as it is.
The outcry over the CW cartoon was so vitriolic I find it deeply amusing this game is almost universally accepted. ZOMG CUT AT-AT IN HALF. Frankly the odds of any SW game being 'good' are poor: the further from SW it gets the worse the odds. SW+Kill Bill? Oh dear.

Most Star Wars games are quite good, I find.
And "another game featuring a pile of shit from Star Wars at all"?
Like
what? Every other goddamn game has a Hoth and Tatooine level. I'm sick of that shit.

Pfft. It's a cool idea, stop whinging.

It's still well beyond the Force abilities exerted by any lone Force user in the EU beyond Emperor Palpatine and Darth Nihilus. The idea that a Sith apprentice could perform similar feats streches the game's canoncial credibility, at least on its face.

I won't deny, being able to crash star destroyers and shred squads of stormtroopers with a thought in-game does sound rather fun. But really, that isn't Star Wars, and I don't like the idea of sacrificing the setting and believability of the game for the sake of "coolness".

This explains everything. I think there are perhaps three good SW games in history, and one is LEGO. lol!

Er, no. I mean 'Jedi are superman', 'Jedi are Spiderman', etc etc. It's as bad as games that invent a bunch of fighters or characters to pad out their lameass RTS/RPG whatever.
I hate Tatooine/Hoth levels too. I hate DS levels more. At least Unleashed isn't the same fucking game re-released AGAIN with a single new level.
Pfft. It's a cool idea, stop whinging.
No, it's a 'disgusting comic-book wank' idea, which got CW cartoon ruled all over. It's unlikely to be good, but I'm unlikely to play it anyway - I just think the acceptance of juvenile wank bullshit is clearly higher in 'zomg teh hotzors game with fx' than 'some lame cartoon lol it looks like Dexter's Lab'.
EDIT - Ire, I agree. If they stay away from trying to tie in with movie events (a sign of complete suck in SW games that aren't LEGO) it could be a fun 'Space Crackdown' sort of game. But it's just a cynical use of the SW brand to sell a game about superman - which is okay, but the CW cartoon was awful, zomg Mace can't jump that high looololololollolol

Yeah but you think nearly everything sucks. X-Wing, TIE Fighter, X-Wing: Alliance, Dark Forces, Dark Forces II: JK, JK:II, JKA, Rogue Squadron series, yes, all good games.
And I thought the LEGO game sucked.
Er, no. I mean 'Jedi are superman', 'Jedi are Spiderman', etc etc.
Which game has that? All the force powers have been more or less too minimalist and restrictive. I look forward to crashing a Stormtrooper right through a wall, or so hard into a metal one that the wall
dents.

Impossible! LEGO rulez. TIE is good, the JK games are meh for reasons you mention later (DF2 was rad), Rogue Squadron sucks balls (lol re-release it again lol). You don't mention all the truly awful games, of course.
Age of Star Wars? Empire at War? The MMO?

That's what this game is. It's 'ps you'll believe a Jedi can fly'. It's just as bad as a new comic writer suddenly powering up his favourite character. As you say, the Force implementation in existing games is retarded (I hear crush, push and pull are all different lol) but this game apparently takes it waaaay the other way, past the CW cartoon into Kill Bill land. And Kill Bill was boring shit.
I thought most people liked the CW cartoons. Eh.
Most of the threads I saw were many people saying 'zomg how to rationalise/ignore the things we don't like like Force-fu'. I was pretty stunned: I thought the higher power levels were pretty awesome.

The whole push pull crush thing I can understand as a matter of game mechanics because it's pretty hard to figure out an easier way to choose what you want to do, though having to put seperate "points" into each power was fucking retarded.
Of course, there've been SW games that sucked hard (Force Commander- thank god I never bought it) but there's many more good games than three is what I'm saying. I own EAW and FoC, but I haven't played them yet as Medieval monopolzied all my time (I got them budge at Christmas). From what little I played they seemed merely average.

But average is bad!
I'm interested to know what the Unleashed control system will be like. JA retard developers might not be able to make a Force power system that isn't complete bullshit, but it really wouldn't be that hard (particularly if you limit them to movie 'move types' and ditch lameness like healing and seeing through walls and crap). I never played the ROTS game, and wasn't that a similar sort of game?

This is the first time I've ever felt this was appropriate.
And lo, the Jedi Versus Debates took a new turn!
Did anyone but me laugh like maniacally after they saw this?

Dude, this is actually going to be built around proper dark-side powers! Not that pansy jedi-light side stuff.

What's the story on a PC release? I might have an X360 when this game comes out but it seems like it would really shine on my new PC build.

lol, all teh programmers want is to make teh trektards and weeaboos get mad.
Frankly I think it's pretty cool. Sorta like Psy-Ops meets Dark Forces. Hopefully it won't fall apart at the end like Psy-Ops.

The justified response to citing The Force Unleashed in debates involving Jedi powers would be that The Force Unleashed was specifically designed to be like that as the gameplay concept and of course in no way should be taken to be some sort of indicator of what the force powers of the various Jedi/ Sith (ie Sidious, Vader, the Apprentice)
actually are.

Excuse my ignorance, but is it standard plot-driven, mission-based stuff, with all the power-creep boss-fight silliness that entails? Games like Crackdown had silly bosses, but they had scope for pure fun as well.

From what I've heard, it is. Apparently, most of the bosses are fugitive Jedi, including Shaak Ti (with rancor minions) and a few other well-known characters. I'm actually kind of looking forward to that part of the game; I'm just afraid that the designer's apparent lust for "coolness" will ruin Unleashed's potential. In any event, I expect the extent of player freedom will be Jedi Academy-esque "alignment" choices.

Fuck canon. I want to break minions' spines and TIE Fighters with my mind.

Only thing that sucks is you'll be fighting the Empire and not the rebels...
Damn it I want a good none War game where I can feel like my actions turned the tide of SW history (At least in game).
My only complaint with Tie fighter towards the end, even when I won the missions I lost...
