I need a new game for XBox 360

I recently got my hands on a little bit of spending money, and I'm rather tired of playing Gears of War and Tiberium Wars over and over and over again. I'll be picking up Halo 3 this fall, but I want something to tide me over until its released. I'm not really particular when it comes to genre; I play pretty much everything beyond racing and sports games. Any suggestions?

Overlord and Crackdown are great fun.

The Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter series. They're fun, and on the highest difficulties, hard enough to take a lot of effort to beat. They'll hold you over for a while.

Crackdown is fun, and an absolute blast when playing online co-op. It's pretty short though, but there's some replayability in there.

Rainbow Six: Vegas is a game I keep going back to, but then I love it.

Enchanted Arms is actually a pretty fun JRPG style game with turn-based grid combat.

Ninty-Nine Nights is a pretty fun brawler in the style of Dynasty Warriors. Lots of different characters to play with.

I second "Crackdown" and "The Darkness".

Also, the first one should be available on the cheap now, which is always nice.

Crackdown- Think GTA style sandbox play only with superpowered crime-fighting agents who can leap from rooftop to rooftop and throw cars at their enemies.

The Darkness- FPS with freaky demonic powers, a nifty way of handling pistol reloads and getting to eat the hearts of your enemies out of their still warm corpses.

Overlord- Be evil, swarm your minions about, beat people's faces in, set hobbits on fire. Third person action where you play as an evil overlord trying to hunt down the heroes who killed the last overlord while rebuilding your tower.

Saint's Row- It's well it's very much a GTA clone only with good graphics.

Dead Rising- Battle zombies in a mall with a host of improvised weapons. Damn fun but the save system is pure crack in the bad way. Though a word of warning if you don't have an HD tv or the hookup that lets you play the 360 on your computer monitor.. the text is a pain in the ass to read on an SD TV.

Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 1&2: Tactical shooters with some big weapon variety and lots of online options.

Lego Star Wars II has just been knocked down to $20 at my local target. It's not the most intensive game out there, but it is fun.

Guitar Hero 2 if you're into that. Although, at this point, you may want to wait for Rock Band.

Depends if you're going to play it online. I don't use Live, on account of it's difficult to set up (me and my friends, who've done it before, tried for about 2 hours and had no luck), so I don't really go for supposedly 'awesome' games that have no decent single-player. I've got bored of Vegas after getting half way through the game because there's no variety whatsoever - it's exactly the same from beginning to end.

I'll second Dead Rising, it's a great game, although I've reached a point where the mindless slaughtering it becoming mildly disturbing...

Project Sylpheed is a very fun starfighter game. I'd best desrcibe it as Crimson Skies in space; not quite a sim, but certainly more depth than arcade-y style games. It can be infuriatingly difficult at times, though.

It's got a pretty heavy anime-vibe to it though, in case you are/are not into that. Indeed, the traditional anime LUDICROUSLY LARGE salvos of missiles are a major part of gameplay.

I dunno, Vegas gets more challenging as you go in SP, so I'm enjoying it. Plus split-screen and online co-op is a blast.

I found Hitman Blood Money to be an absurdly good game. It manages to avoid the typical stealth game cliches, and the missions allow you to mix and match the methods you use to accomplish your objectives. The game's ingenious level design should also be mentioned. Plus weapon upgrades and modifications.

Battlestations Midway. If you're looking for a nice combination of strategy and action, come here. It's not often you play a video game which allows you to directly control WW2 era ships and aircraft. Did I mention the game features a plethora of different ships and aircraft? Just look at the website's official list.

I would like to second the nomination for Rainbow Six Vegas as well.

Battlestations: Midway is a lot of fun. Opening up a full broadside from the Yamato is something not to be missed. Or if you download the expansion, the Iowa. Planes and subs are fun as well.

Singleplayer game is a bit short though. Some of the missions are obscenely challenging on the harder difficulties as well. Multi is fun. 4v4 team based.

Am currently playing Overlord. As mentioned above, it's lots of fun playing an evil overlord controlling a bunch of goblins. A mix of rpg, strategy and some puzzle elements.

Overlord, Crackdown, and Saint's Row.
