SVCD Maker

Post by Dominus Atheos »

I need to burn a few SVCDs, and I don't know of any software that can do it. Does anyone have any recommendations?

All you need is a program that can burn image files. Alcohol 120% and Nero can do this very well.

Alcohol 120% can make AVIs into SVCDs?

You know, it really does help to actually specify the OS you're using if you want software recommendations. . . .

Assuming you're using Windows and want freeware, use TMPGEnc to make the MPEG files and VCDEasy to make the actual VCD or SVCD. I used to have an old page on my website with tips on doing this. I dumped it in purgatory and took it off the main index a while ago because I figured that VCD and SVCD were obsolete, but you can still see it at http://www.stardestroyer.net/Mike/OldPa ... Video.html (note that the format is messed up, the graphics are missing, and despite the footer, it is not actually XHTML compliant).

Damn. No. Sorry. Nero can, though. I would go with Wong's suggestion since it is freeware.

I downloaded Sicko, (Not illegal) and want to show it to my parents, and don't have a DVD burner, so I thought I'd burn it to an SVCD. I guess I'll go with Wong's suggestion.

That didn't work very well. The 2 hour video file is too large for the 800mb CD. What should I do?

In the old days, people used to split a movie into two 1-hour pieces. If you have the old free versions of TMPGEnc and VCDEasy, it should be pretty easy to do. I know a disc swap is inconvenient, but we're talking about a pretty limited format here.

Is that possible? TMPGEnc won't split files, and I didn't want to have my computer's processor tied up for three hours if it was going to spit out a file that I couldn't even use.
