How to turn off Vista error-report sending?

Post by Stark »

In XP it was easy to turn this off, but Vista doesn't even seem to ASK. Something crashes, and suddenly you've got Dr Watson running in your process list, hitting the HDD like a maniac and doubtless firing off reports to Microsoft. This offends me.

I'd like to ensure remote reporting is off, but I'd also like to turn off this self-diagnosis execution of Dr Watson. Things crash - I don't care, and Dr Watson ain't ever gonna tell me. Poking around in my (now-reset-to-Vista-standard-suck-layout) control panel I can't find the option I'm looking for. Vista's 'as good as spotlight' search is, well, NOT as good as spotlight. :)

If you have your control panel set to classic view, there's an icon called "Problem Reports and Solutions". Click on that, then go into "Change Settings". Click on "Advanced Settings" and there will be an option to turn problem reporting on or off.

Cool, thanks - it's in settings, advanced settings: they really don't want you turning it off. :) The two-pane Vista control applets (like Problem Reports and Solutions) have such non-intuitive links it's not funny.
