Can the wireless controller thing on a 360 be broken?

The replacement 360 I recieved today refuses to connect to any wireless peripherals. They all seek and find fine, but aren't allocated a number to complete the connection. I've tested my controller and headset and another wireless controller. They all work fine with the PC USB wireless thing and on my last 360.

Are there settings buried in the dashboard for this? Is there a 'no, really' connection method? Wired controls work fine, and the wireless controllers can 'turn on' the 360 just fine. They are simply not given a slot and can't be used as controllers. They don't work when plugged in via USB charging cable, either.

GHETTO - I've noticed that even using corded controllers, the ring on the 360 never lights up for quadrant one. The controller does, and it works, but the ring on the 360 doesn't acknowledge any peripheral connections under any circumstances. Do I have to get another one?

It'd be easier to buy a PS3 at this point. Sounds like the Xbox 360s, in Australia at least, suck.

On the plus side for Microsoft, it shows more units shifted.

Irritatingly, the unit I got is *clearly* a refurbished unit, given the amount of wear on the casing (and some awesome red pen on the bottom). What a waste of my fucking time.

However, PS3's are useless to me. They have none of the games I own and none of the games I plan to buy this year. They are, however, quiet and sensibly cooled. :)
