I recently reinstalled the original fallout and the screen randomly goes black, and areas of the screen only return to normal once they change. I can get most of the stuff back by waving the cursor around or moving the viewing window, but does anyone know a better fix?

The most obvious step would be to try running it in an earlier compatibility mode.
