Problem with computer's internal speakers [Solution found!]

Damn you ancient DOS games, damn you I say!
So I encountered this badass strategy game in Home of the Underdogs. It's called Bravo Romeo Delta and deals with Global Thermonuclear War (my favourite game!). While the interface is hilariously clunky on account of being a 1993 game, I rather like BRD. It's also nice that the AI kicks my ass easily, so it's something of a challenge, though it probably has more to do with me knowing jack about nuclear targeteering.
Anyway, my problem is the sound. Every time I do something there's an annoying beep. In more modern games I would go to the settings and turn off said beep, but this shit's so old that there are no settings. Okay, no problem, let's turn off the speakers. Guess what? No result. Apparently the game uses the computer's internal sound making device, which I have no idea how to turn off or otherwise get to stop making annoying noises.
Any help please? I want to be able to nuke the Soviet Union out of existence without going mad in the process, there's also my roommate to consider, I'm sure he would appreciate no random sharp beeps.
