I have already decided that this problem means I need a new router (I got this router second hand about 2 1/2 years ago) so I don't care too much if its not fixable. However I'd still like it explained.
When I go to turn the router on by either the switch on its back or by the switch on the power socket at the wall, it takes between 20 minutes and an hour (after 20 minutes the lights were still off, and I didn't look again till over an hour had passed) for the light on its front to come on, instead of the lights coming on instantly like it used to do up until this issue started. I have not tried telling it to do a software reboot (that will happen tonight), and apart from a much longer boot time it works fine.
It was originally purchased from Dick Smith Electronics, model number: DSE XH1169
