Hyrulian shooter to come packed in with Nintendo's upcoming Wii gun peripheral on November 19.

Since launching last November, the Wii has easily bested all challengers in the console sales race. Oddly, Nintendo's success can arguably be attributed to Wii Sports, the proof of concept sports compilation that comes packed in with the console and plays heavily to the system's motion-sensing capabilities.
Link's new weapon of choice. For its latest peripheral, Nintendo is looking to re-create that success in a similar fashion. Nintendo announced today that Link's Crossbow Training will accompany the Wii Zapper when it targets retail shelves on November 19. The game will graphically resemble Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, and players will assume the role of Link as he progresses through a series of skill-based shooting tests.
Nintendo has already attracted several developers to the Wii Zapper. When the peripheral was initially announced during this year's E3 Media and Business Summit, Nintendo noted that Electronic Arts' Medal of Honor Heroes 2, Capcom's Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, and Sega's Ghost Squad would all be tailor-made for the Zapper.
Link's Crossbow Training will come packed in with the Wii Zapper, which retails for $19.99. It has not yet been rated.

Doesn't seem to me like much of a shooter. It's just taking the crossbow elements of Zelda since, say, Ocarina of Time, and making it into some low budget freebie game.
It's not Link is picking up an RPG and descending into the pits of hell to mow down hell spawn while wandering down corridors.

Sounds kind of like how Stranger took the Oddworld series into an action type of game.
Still, I thought the Zelda series was above this type of thing.

One word: Tingle.
The Zelda series is above nothing!

Damn, I forgot about Tingle, since I never had a use for his maps anyways, and I ignored him for the most part.
Shit, I just remembered something.
The Zelda CD-i games.
I wish I didnt remember.

Besides, dude, it's Nintendo. You're just lucky they haven't squeezed Link into a go-kart or handed him a golf club instead of a sword.

You know, I actually think that would be kind of cool. It'd be hilarious if someone did that (and even more hilarious if they made it part of some kind of Nintendo Quake style game).

On the other hand, he has in universe horse racing and fishing games. They don't really need to stick him anywhere else.
Though an anachronistic link wielding a golf club while bidding to get his sword back so as to return to Hyrule might be an amusing- if completely atmosphere destroying- sidequest

Heh, you guys are slow, I had this up on my site this morning
This looks to me like Wii Play with Zelda. I mean, it's a free pack-in game for a $19.99 peripheral. It's going to have just enough meat on it to have a little fun and make you like the peripheral, but leave you wanting more gameplay.

Dammit, I also just remembered Super Smash Bros.
On the side note of a Zelda Doom-esque FPS, I would picture a weapon that fires mini-Din's fire that explode on impact, like those explosive Turok arrows.

Honestly though, it's fucking bullshit that Europe is getting the Tingle RPG for DS and the US isn't. Thank God for region-free game cards and an English translation.

So how long before someone takes the new zapper and mods it to fit in the casing of a classic zapper from the NES?
Because that would just kick copious amounts of ass.

You could do that by modding a Wiimote, you don't need the Zapper for it.

Nngh.
Has Link EVER had a crossbow before? I've always seen him with a 'regular' short bow.
I can't really get on Nintendo's case too much, given that they're bundling it with a $20 accessory, but giving him a crossbow just seems...strange.

Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland
Quite a few folks over at Penny Arcade think it's a pretty fun game, and were very excited when they heard that an English localisation was being done.

He's never had one, though I don't know if that's true of CDi Zelda or not.

Those games don't count for
anything. They deserve a desert burial more than ET did...

Not when you actually
look at the device that the game is a demonstrator for. A crossbow makes intuitive sense given the shape of the zapper, a shortbow would not.

I can't help but feel that game's entire point is to somehow justify Tingle's existence.

Isnt the justification for Tingle's existance the fact that he sells maps.
Granted, the maps are useless, but still.

However, the technology in the Zelda series is all over the place. I mean, Link also has gunpowder-based weapons, and a primitive camera at one point.
Really, a crossbow isn't that long of a stretch for me.

When has he had gunpowder-based weaponry? The bombs are natural in origin...either refined from flowers, or those weird bug-things.

I'm guessing that it was the big barrel shaped bombs that he could use in Majora's Mask. I'm not sure if it was ever established that they used gunpowder though.
