Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory

Holy shit. I have been playing this game (X-Box version) every chance I get (which, admittedly, isn't that much) for about a month, and it's still blowing my mind. Never has a game entertained me so effectively, unless it be Heroes 3. This may be the greatest game ever created by man. *High-five to the face!*

Yeah, Chaos Theory really took everything that had gone before and built on it. More stuff to do in missions, more ways to approach the missions, and a big step up in engine capability.

Chaos Theory is definitely much better than the 360/PC version of Double Agent. I would argue that CT is the high-point of the series thus far (I guess we'll see where the upcoming one is going - it certainly seems to cater to a different style of play).

Yeah, I'm really rather torn about the decision to move the game in a new direction. I understand that they don't want to get stale and make "Same game, new levels, few new features" every year or two, but damn it all, I LIKED that game.

Double Agent was decidedly meh, especially the gimping they gave the multiplayer mode. Conviction looks interesting, but it doesn't seem like a "Splinter Cell" game, more like a Bourne Identity game starring Sam Fisher. That could be fun, granted, but I rather miss being a specops ninja that hides in the shadows and shit.

I'm currently playing through Chaos Theory myself and quite enjoying it - 20mm sniper attachment for the win. I'm actually torn between which game I like better Chaos Theory or Double Agent on 360, primarily because they're actually really different. The other version of Double Agent is much closer to the first three, so that would probably be a better game to judge from.

Now you can be a ninja that hides in plain sight! :)

Oh man, I disagree so hard. I've used the 20mm sniper a grand total of twice. And all the pistol is really good for is shooting out lights. The knife is the way to go. With the slicing, and the bleeding, and the cutting of the throats [/Frink]. Also, hiding bodies is creepily fun.

You ... kill people in this game?

Yeeees....? Isn't that the idea? I rarely get caught doing it, if that's what you're thinking.

Well, I've found that killing people is almost totally unnecessary. At best I knock people out, and it's only in the Battery level that I've gone commando with the SC-20K (in order to speed up finding the abort codes at the end of the mission). Or any gun, for that matter.

Ah, ok. I usually go for the knife kill, unless there are other guards around. Not really sure why, now that you mention it. Meh, just the way I roll.

Bullets are reserved for lights and robots.

I only kill people if spotted, but I try to do missions with just knocking everyone out.

I should try ghosting a level sometime, or just slaughtering everything.

Now that you mention it, I'm actually curious: Is that even possible on some levels? I guess you can always hack retinal scanners and the like, but is there anything else that might require interrogation or otherwise keeping people alive and/or using them somehow? It's been awhile since I've played through and I don't remember.

Off the top of my head, the first mission in New York requires you to interogate a guard in order to find out that they're working for Displace. The mission in Seoul requires some interrogation of an NKA special forces operator for the SHADOWNET team in the area.

Yeah but you can kill them afterwards.

The only times you can't kill everyone in a mission is IIRC
  • Displace
  • Penthouse - Only the National Guard
  • Final mission - For the first part at least
  • Anytime you're asked to capture a specific target
  • Anytime there are civilians
Otherwise, it can be quite entertaining to go through a mission silently taking everyone out (or going Rambo on them)

Hey, I still should have the PC version somewhere. Got stuck in the mission with the bank iirc and stopped playing.

Brilliant series tough

The bank?

Are you kidding me?

Perhaps it's best you got stuck there.

Really, I've been in every room, pushed every button, game doesn't ends.

Maybe bugged?

That doesn't tell me anything. You could supposedly have been in every room but have not actually done what you were supposed to do to.

You know you leave the level at the end, right? :P

Mate, the bank level is good, but not that hard. You do leave the building, as DPDP states, so if you're still wandering round the building itself, you've missed something major.

It's been a while since I was on that mission. I have the game with me though, so I'm going to get into it again and it should all come flooding back to me.

And ghosting it is the best bet. Nothing more satisfying than fucking up some guy's plans as if you were a force of (invisible) nature.

I should throw Chaos Theory into my 360 and see how it runs. I could probably get through the levels to the Bank in a couple hours.

*Slap*

Offcourse I do :P

I'll give it another try after I upgraded my PC in a few weeks, as my PC could barely handle it on high detail

There's a slight amount of lag between when you alert a person and when they respond with whatever interesting comment they have (or gunfire).
