Nvidia 9000 series?

Post by Mr Bean »

Ok, got into an upgrade discussion between friend an I who's looking to upgrade Video card's soon. Now after every Nvidia upgrade cycle the old cards get a nice drop in price. But I've not been following the industry for awhile, and I've lost touch with most non-Internet based sources.

Which means of course, I have no bloody idea when we are due for the next Nvidia release, nor what any of these new cards will be sporting in specs.

So what if any, road maps, trade show presentations, or the like has Nvidia released? Google-fu has failed me horribly in this regard which is why I post the question here.

1. When is the next Nvidia refresh/release cycle due? (Just the month is good enough)

2. What if any details do we have about said cycle?

I'm not entirely sure, but last I heard, NVidia might do a revamp of the 8800GTS and release a new card that is a core shrink of the card come November. The new card will also be DX10.1 compliant. I am not sure if that will lead to a 9000 series card as technically, there isn't much of a difference, other than the core shrink and the DX10.1 compliance.

AMD did say some time back they would also do a core shrink of the HD2900XT but they have been scanty on details.

NVidia's done an excellent job of keeping details from leaking out, unfortunately. Wild theories abound without a shred of evidence one way or the other.

G92 is currently rumoured to be a deriative of the G80 and not anything completly new. However, it's going to be a serious horsepower card.
Beyond3D wrote: Rumoured Data Points
- Evolutionary step of the G8x architecture.
- Supports PCI Express 2.0 (and DisplayPort?).
- "Close to 1TFlop in 4Q07" according to NVIDIA Exec.
- FP64 support confirmed (for Tesla only, not GeForce).
- First iteration will be on 65nm; next ones might be 55nm.
- Few details are actually known (or rumoured) about the arch.

Noteworthy Internet Rumours

"Nvidia's next generation is G92" [Fudzilla]
Further information, as far as I know, nVidia plans to release it's new cards come november.

So far, can't find anything else, and considering how well nVidia pulled one over the entire computing press with the G80(unified shaders being a 'debunked rumour'), I'm leery of posting some of the more interesting speculations.[/quote]
