Decent 360 games?

With Halo 3 just round the corner, I'm considering buying a 360. I'm not willing, however, to buy an entire system to play a single game, because that's a waste of money, no matter how much I might enjoy said game.

So I have to ask. Other than Gears of War (which is going to be on PC at some point in the not too distant future), what decent games are there on the 360 that might make buying the thing worthwhile?

Mass Effect comes out in November.

It's by the folks who did KOTOR and Jade Empire and it is going to be the best-looking game on any system for a while.

Dead Rising is awesome as hell from what I've played. How can you not love running your butt off from zombies in the world's biggest mall?

The game is very frustrating at first, but it is the sort of game you're suppose to just dick around with having fun for a while before attempting major story stuff.

Major Great Games
Bioshock
Dead Rising
Riot Act (Crackdown i think) (maybe a little bit short)

Niche games:
Ridge Racer 6 (with the initial D OST in the background ;))
Earth Defense Force 3 (giant Ants FTW)
Oneechanbara Vortex
Project Sylpheed (correct space shooters)
Trusty Bell (for J-RPG lover)
Chromehounds (only if you play on-line)

and iDOLM@STER if you like j-pop

Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed. Rock Band should be out in the US soon, yeah?

Dead Rising was kinda scuppered by going from 'hideously easy and boring constant slaying of thousands of zero-threat zombies' to 'stupid boss fights you have to do at a set time against Mr Invincible and his collection of absurd firearms'. If you removed the bosses (or ignored them) it wouldn't be frustrating at all.

There is something inherently awesome about this game. Maybe it's the fact that Altair seems like such a smooth bastard. Maybe it's the climbing.

Now, for some 360 games which I think are pretty damn cool, we have the following:

Gears of War, though if you have a spiffy computer I'd suggest getting it on PC, simply for the extra act they're putting in. It really is a solid game, especially in co-op, and it's got a very high level of polish.

Stranglehold, if you're a fan of John Woo movies. Because this really is playing a John Woo movie. It's really intuitive as well; it was long before I was rolling around on carts, leaping and sliding across tables (I'm still a terrible shot though).

Hitman: Blood Money, being some of the best fun you can have sneaking around and being a prick. It can offer you quite the satisfaction as well, for pulling Silent Assassin in a harder mission on Professional.

The Darkness is pretty much one of the best storytelling experiences I've had with a videogame. While it's fun to play, that's the biggest draw: how it's story is told.

If you're looking for multiplayer, you can't go beyond Rockstar presents Table Tennis. A simple game at heart, with a few buddies it can turn into a really wild time, with all the close misses and crazy shots.

Perfect Dark Zero is fun, but you should get Xbox Live if you're buying that. Single player is fun, but the multiplayer keeps it from getting stale.

Well aside from what everyone else is saying...

Call of Duty 2 is still a great single player experince if you haven't burned yourself out on WWII games yet. In fact, it is pretty much my favorite WWII shooter. Multiplayer is decent but not many play anymore.

Rainbow Six Vegas and Ghost Recon 2 both have awesome multiplayer with tons of modes plus co-op and very fun gameplay. One of these games will keep you busy on Live for awhile. Their single player campaigns are short, but very well executed with some spiffy set pieces, and awesome graphics.

Then you got the upcoming fall line up, I'm pretty confident that all of these will be at least pretty decent and fun games.

Assassins Creed
Blacksite Area 51
Call of Duty 4
Mass Effect
Army of Two
Ace combat 6
Half Life 2: The Orange Box

I had a lot of fun playing Guitar Hero 2 at a friend's house. But I hear that's expensive.

Rainbow Six - Vegas Co-op mode is perhaps the best thing i´ve played lately. It´s great even if you have to play it split screen on a low definition TV.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned the sheer overflow of solid-gold classic and new games available and coming soon on Xbox Live Arcade.

Holy shit son! Man, thanks for letting me in on that. I don't use Live, but I would for that.

If you want Guitar Hero, wait for Rock Band.
