The Carnage Continues in THQ's Warhammer(R) 40,000(TM): Dawn of War(R) - Soulstorm(TM)
Standalone Expansion in Million-Unit Selling Franchise Scheduled for Spring 2008 Release
AGOURA HILLS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 26, 2007--THQ Inc. (NASDAQ:THQI) today announced Warhammer(R) 40,000(TM): Dawn of War(R) - Soulstorm(TM), the next standalone chapter in internal studio Relic Entertainment's award-winning Real-Time Strategy (RTS) franchise, is scheduled for release on Windows PC in spring 2008. Featuring an extensive interplanetary campaign spanning an entire star system in the Warhammer(R) 40,000(TM) universe, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Soulstorm introduces two all-new factions for an unprecedented total of nine playable races.
"Relic Entertainment has set the standard for technical excellence and innovation in the RTS genre," said Bob Aniello, senior vice president of worldwide marketing, THQ. "Dawn of War - Soulstorm continues that tradition as a standalone title featuring all-new, brutally addictive single and multiplayer game-play that will hook newcomers and skilled Dawn of War veterans alike."
"In Dawn of War - Soulstorm, we've taken Games Workshop's epic war from one planet to an entire star system," said Tarrnie Williams, general manager, Relic Entertainment. "Allowing gamers to play nine unique races, introducing air units and providing multiplayer achievements for the first time creates a tremendous amount of new and challenging strategic gameplay for all players."
About Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War: Soulstorm
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Soulstorm is set in Games Workshop's (LSE: GAW) Warhammer 40,000 universe - a dark, futuristic, fantasy setting where armies of technologically advanced warriors, fighting machines and hordes of implacable aliens wage constant war - and is played by millions worldwide. Executive produced and co-developed by Relic Entertainment in association with Iron Lore Entertainment, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Soulstorm is a complete standalone title and will feature two all-new armies, including the malicious Dark Eldar, for an unprecedented total of nine playable races. In addition to new units across each of the seven existing races, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Soulstorm will incorporate air units for the first time and introduce multiplayer medals, adding a whole new level of depth to online battles. The revolutionary meta-game introduced in Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Dark Crusade is further expanded to an interplanetary scale in Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War - Soulstorm, allowing players to battle across an entire star system.

Oh good, just what I need when I have a new course to complete *mutters*
Edit: To use a Queen quote, about the Air Units.
Thunderbolts and Lightnings, Very Very Frightening!

Oh, holy shit, another one? Well, I'm certainly looking forward to it, though the Dark Eldar have always been one of the least interesting groups of the 40K universe to me.
What's the other faction going to be? Tyranids?

What's the other race? Tyrannids?
EDIT: I wonder how long it will take foir someome to mod Ciaphas Cain into the game? Awesome damage but craptastic morale
Have a very nice day.

The current betting is on them or the Sisters of Battle.

GAH! Give me the biggest damn threat to the galaxy, not some second-rate Imperial faction!
Have a very nice day.

You're gonna have to narrow that one down a little there. The number one spot is traditionally very messily contested.

I'm not expecting Tyranids, given they have stated they don't want to make them some ridiculous base-building bug group.

Apparently these Iron Lore fellows, who are co-producing it, are known for making Titan Quest.
Good or bad? I dunno, having never played TQ.

Well, given that the current Tyra-wank fluff implies that the Hive Fleets are themselves scouting groups for the Mega Hive Fleet of Doom, I'd certainly say that short of the Necrons awakening enmasse, they are the #1 threat. It sure ain't Chaos or the Orks, given that they've had 10,000 years to destroy the Imperium, with remarkable lack of success.
Have a very nice day.

Adepta Soritas (aka sisters of battle) you seem to the most likely to the second "race" that or Ordo Hereticus (or how you spelled it). As they've said they wouldn't add the nids as they wouldn't be able to do them justice and adding Ordo Malleus would add a third space marine force (loyalist and chaos marines being the two already in game).

Sisters of Battle? Man, if they're doing another human faction I'd much rather have them make an Adeptus Mechanicus army. TechGuard, Titans and Ordinatus' for all!

Well, they can't exactly do a Titan, given how they are portrayed in the game (secondary weaponry annihilating Monoliths and all), and Ordinati, and without them, the AdMech don't have enough good stuff to be worthy of inclusion. Now if they did an Epic game, using Supreme Commander as a basis.....
Have a very nice day.

sure it would better but Titans would probably cause serious balance problems and then there's the lore problems too.

All true. Considering the previous depictions of Titans and their weapons in DoW even a small one wouldn't fit on the screen very well. Pity--I'd much rather play AdMech than bother with those silly Penitent Engines and such.

You're kidding right ?
Even before Dark Apostle rolled out the fully kitted out Ad-mech army they had plenty of nasty toys.
They'd be like a halfway stage between IG and Space marines.
Ordinatus Minoris maybe for a superheavy, (slightly longer than a Baneblade, smaller grade Titan level weapons)
Praetorians for heavy elite infantry.
Skitiarii for the basic troops, maybe the Sagitarii for another troop type, Gorgon transports, Combat Servitors etc
Arch-Magos for a commander, maybe one with lots and lots of options so you can go for extremely shooty or psychotic close combat.
Leman Russ executioners for the heavy armour choice.
Holo-shrouded combat servitors or some other unit for a stealth unit.
titan strike, giant EMP or something like that for special ability.

Well, true, but these generally get overlooked in favor of Titans, Titans, and even more Titans. And besides, while cool, I doubt that AdMech are more popular than the Sororitas among the players due to the "OMG BOOBZ" factor. A pity, really, given that they're much cooler, IMHO.
Have a very nice day.

Well we already had Ad mech units (techpriests) as a vital part of the imperial guard faction, which cause problems or at least limit the story line greatly (inquisation has none of those problems).
and since Dark Eldar are not a very potent threat having a (party) unified imperiums would cause them serious problems.

The Ad-mech could "easily" be placed into conflict with any of races in 40k
For "allied" Imperial races, you wave a piece of shiny technology in front of them, and they'd shoot their own families for the chance to look at it.
They've done it before, they'll do it again.

Yes, but the enginseers attached to Guard units will probably abandon their posts and join their coghead brethren if that happens. They are, after all, AdMech first and foremost.
Have a very nice day.

Awesome. I'll have to get around to finishing Dark Crusade though.
Will Dawn of War be required to play all the races in Soulstorm? (Like in Dark Crusade).

well with nature on WH:40K IG can't just get a builder unit that's not allied with Ad Mech and besides they've seem to have focused on the "main" races (SM,CSM, Eldar, Dark Eldar, Nercons, Nids, Witch and daemon hunters, the tau and the orks)

I'm sure GW will devise a new side sometime in the next few years which will be the new "omg unstoppable force".

Old Ones, a new Old One super weapon, Xeno alliance, Traitors from the (C'tan, Chaos, ancient Eldar, Squat, Tyranid, Imperium) factions that have gained Strange Powers or have explored depths that They were Not Meant To Know, a race of Warp spawn hybrids, Hydra, Iron Men, Stone men, Sponge men or Purple dinosaur of soul sucking Doom-men

Given their description in Xenology, I bet they could jazz up the Thyrr or the Q'orl into a new army.
Hell, if the Ass-end of Nowhere Tau can be furiously fumbled into forcing the Imperium into fortification rather than offensive reprisals, as they have done so with the most recent Tau wank, the Squiddies or the Nu-Bugs can.
hell, the Q'orl have already thieved Navigator brainz and proper warp drives.

Oh boy. Just what we need.
I wonder where they'll fit them in, though. They seem to be remarkably reluctant to cross over into M42.
