Probably an easy question for someone... Network adapter...

My wife's pc won't connect to the wireless network. When I open the command prompt and try "ipconfig," it reads 'Media Disconnected.' I don't want to plug it in with a cable because I'll have to disconnect my modem, router, and relocate them.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Is her wireless adapter turned on? Most laptops with an internal wireless adapter have a switch to turn the radio on and off.

Should have clarified, she has a desktop.

Fixed the problem. I disabled the wireless zero process, and suddenly the network came back.

Anyone know why it would do this?

Media disconnected is the standard reply for a wireless network card that isn't connected to a wireless network.

As far as the problem - possibly the card's software was clashing with Windows integrated wireless support? That is the reason I prefer installing just the drivers for wireless cards (these days, any wireless card should be supported by Windows' integrated wireless support).

On a somewhat similar note, I acquired this little number for practically nothing today.

I'm currently using it to post on the board, so it works just dandy- however I was also assured that I could plug it into my X-Box 360 and use it to connect to Live, yet when I connect it to the console I don't get any signal at all.

OOOH OOOH SDN 'help' pardoy approaching!

*ahem*

You need a USB wirelss thing, 360s don't have internal wireless adapters like every other console.

SHAZAM! I have been both unhelpful and patronising! :D

Superman, are you joining your network manually, or using Windows's 'here is a list of all the wireless networks broadcasting their SSID choose one' thing?

Third party wireless software likes to fight with wireless zero config.

Though our usual response at work is to kill the third party shit and use wireless zero instead, because for one Microsoft have written something intuitive and good.
