StarDestroyer.Net: The Video Game!

Inspired by
this entry on THAT Animeblog.
Basically, the members of StarDestroyer.Net get together and program a video game about ourselves. What would it be like?
I'd like to program a tactical RPG, like '
Shining Force'. We play as an officer in either the Empire (an authoritarian nation which is trying to unite the galaxy under its rule), or the Federation (a democratic nation which is trying to maintain its independence)-- the story is similar to that of '
Legend of the Galactic Heroes'. Note: these are NOT the nations described in 'Star Wars' and 'Star Trek'-- I don't want to have to pay Lucasarts and Paramount licensing fees. As an officer, we are given a limited amount of funds with which we can build a fleet, raise an army, and support campaigns-- we'll receive increasing amounts of funds as we get promoted. We'll command the units we build in battle, along with hero characters (other members of StarDestroyer.Net, like Darth Wong or Lord Poe) who serve the same function as Jedi in the Clone Wars. Eventually, we'll have the option of supporting a coup (getting ourselves named Emperor or President) or suppressing it (offing idiots who try to name themselves Emperor or President-- the Imperial officer might end up getting purged after the war, while the Federal officer might end up winning the presidential election).
Any other ideas?

I'm not sure what best describes us. We don't always get along, afterall, and that's part of the unique flavor of the board--trying to say there's any degree of coherency, or even logical alliances doesn't always flow. It would need to be a game where your allies could turn on you at any moment, or your enemies try to join up with you. Plus I'd choose whatever gametype maximizes there actually being a 'Covenant' character at all. Realistically I wouldn't be all that useful in an RPG, ranking in amongst the other plebes just above the "Yuffie and Cait Sith" types of worthlessness inhabited by trolls, fundies and retarded spambots.

Real Time Strategy is the only viable option. The AYVB can have the dating sim all to themselves.

Ideally for a fighting game you could use MUGEN since it's so deliciously customizable.

Angry Young Virgin Brigade, mostly disbanded, but I hear they still gather together every once in a while to curse Aerius.

Indeed, although if I was in charge of the game, I'd give the hero a
Buntline Special instead of a sword. Shoot enemies from short-to-mid range, bludgeon them at close range, or attach the stock and use it as a sniper rifle-- a good multipurpose weapon.

It's already been done, sorta. SD.net, SB.com, and a few other places are in the games "Final Flamewar: Attack of the Trolls" and the sequel/third game in the series "Final Flamewar: The Fiver Menace". The second one, "Final Flamewar: The Troll Wars" apparently was never completed.
Anyway, the link:

It'd need to be a deep strategy game like King of Dragon Pass about politics, relationships, trust and warfare. You never know where you stand with... FAKE INTERNET PEOPLE.

It has to be a MMO with player controlled economies, planets, life like ai, crysis like graphics and total war size armies on the screen at same time.
But I think a Sims 2 mod would be best.

Well, if you decide to do an RPG centred around the mystical art of debating, and where the attacks are different types of arguments, just remember that
I thought of it first!!!
And in that game, if you have a flame attack called "your mother", I will be very sad, for the same reason...

OTOH, Rye would make for a wonderful androgynous scantly-clad girly man Final Fantasy-type of hero!

I donnu. I think a RPG/strategy mix would somehow fit the most. You roleplay as a manager of a planet/polis/whatever. You then have to invest and manage your own city, while you can visit other player's towns/planets, talk with them, debate with them, etc. You can manage your own city and fill it out with your own stuff, or stuff you can get from other players in exchange for resources or some kind of agreement.
What would I think would be interesting, is that someone would develop a "claim" system. Essentially, one can do unique stuff, like developing city systems and technology, with which they can win resources or just brownie points.
So yeah, I imagine a highly sociable MMORPG, except there would be less grinding.
Which would really suck ass.

I think Capcom had the idea first.

Howabout allying with certain factions and board members to gain certian advantages. Allying with me provides the ability to sommon forth North American Viking Heavy Cavalry, Romans with matchlocks and the People's Liberation army and such to your aid, Stark offers abilities based on the power of unbridaled hatred of everything, Vymp offers Red Army assistances, Seaskimmer offers massive nucular tank hoards and such?

I picture something like Planescape: Torment. The different boards of SDN would be like the Factions of Sigil.
Guess which Sigil Faction Testing would represent.

The Dirty Cracker Game.
Not a Flash or C++ version of it, mind you. Just the Dirty Cracker Game.
On the other hand, there might be merit in some sort of adventure game with a robust NPC and dialog system, where random enemy trolls and idiots show up and create/turn peaceful 'thread' zones into hazardous ones, and you have to go collect proper evidence, source material, and knowledgeable allies to defeat them in embellished, visually-aided verbal combat.
