Fixing volume on an ipod

I am a little tired of having to turn some songs way up and having to quickly turn them down when they're over, lest my eardrums get raped by the next song. The "Sound Check" option is supposed to fix this, but it doesn't even come close.

Is there an option that will automatically play all songs at the same volume without having to adjust it every time?

Do the songs at the lower volume use the same bitrate and codec as the ones that don't? If they were ripped using inferior encoding then any type of tweeks wouldn't necessarily help.

The files need the soundcheck value to be set by iTunes or whatever program you're using on your computer before loading them onto the iPod. Basically, you need to let your computer scan through all your music files and set the proper value for SoundCheck for each individual file, then load'em onto the iPod, only then will the SoundCheck option on the iPod work properly.

If that still doesn't work, there's various ReplayGain programs which do the same thing. Run the ReplayGain program on all the files on your computer, then run another program to translate the ReplayGain into SoundCheck values, then load onto the iPod.

If that still doesn't work you'll have the joy of doing everything by hand with a sound editing program of some sort.

Does that work with video files as well? My friend's copy of Ocean's 13 is extremely quiet, to the point where you can barely hear it with the volume maxed out on his iPod.

For sound editing program, I'd recommend Audacity.

I don't know, I've never tried playing videos on my iPod.

We just tried it out on my iPod. It doesn't work on videos, only on music files.

Ah, bummer. Thanks for trying!
