What is this arcade game?

I played this shooting game in an arcade recently... It was in the style of Time Crisis, except that the storyline went that you were a counter-terrorist, and the main difference was this awesome gun controller that was a pretty good replica of an MP-5. I could actually hold it up to my shoulder, aim through the sights, and drop the terrorists with single shots, as opposed to the machinegun spraying that other people were using.

Anyways, does this sound familiar to anyone? Anyone know what this game might be?

It's a Time Chrisis knockoff called Crisis Zone

Nope. The gun was literally a plastic MP5, like this:

The story involved something about a terrorist base in the jungle, then a boat chase on a jungle river. And there was like a sniping mode (yeah, with the same gun) with a timer that gave you like 8 seconds to make the shot or reinforcements were summoned. I got that far before running out of quarters.

Yes, that's it! Thanks!

I don't remember there being a fire selector switch though... I spent the entire time on three round burst I think.

The switch was the grey thing on the right side of the gun that you could flick with your thumb. I take it you were using the first gun available (the one that looked like a shortened G36)? With that gun, it has a limited amount of ammo for full-auto fire, along with unlimited ammo for burst and semi-auto.

Though I don't recall the gun looking anything like an MP5, unless you were using a unique cabinet. The two cabinets I saw (along with several in pictures) had a green carbine that resembled a G36.

Ghost Squad sounds fun...but Crisis Zone was a hell of a lot of fun to play. Nothing like full-auto mayhem to brighten your day...

Ah yeah, it was a G36C. And I have to say that I got the most fun out of that game not so much from the gameplay (which was fun though) but by pretending that I actually was a super-awesome commando, complete with realistic-operating weapon! None of this machine-pistol crap.

Hey, what's wrong with the TMP?

Where do you see people running around and shooting terrorists with machine pistols? That's right, action movies!

Now, where do you see people running around and shooting terrorists with carbines? That's right, good action movies! (And the military I guess...)

Besides, playing with a machine pistol reminds me too much of Time Crisis. I have some bad memories of that game.

Ah...see, I've never really played Time Crisis much; it was always $1 per play in the arcade. Crisis Zone was usually either $0.50 or $0.25 - much more cost-effective.

$1? man, that's cheap for some of the arcades in southern california. (Gameworks, I'm looking at you, you fuckers.)

Crisis zone was awesome because you got a machine gun and a riot shield. Maximum force.. Was that the one where different things happened depending on your immediate reaction to danger? I remember a game with a sort of context sensitive button on the gun, where you'd punch people that got too close or duck a knife slash.

That game would be the aforementioned Ghost Squad.

Didn't have a good experience due to the ergonomics of the physical "weapon." (So much for aiming through the sights when the stock is in the way of a good cheek weld.)

You don't read too well, do you?

I never used the sights for that very reason. It's also because I'm very good at guessing where my shots will land without looking down the sights at all.

I'd say the same of you, since you seem to have missed the word "aforementioned".

If you'd bothered to read the thread properly, you would've noticed I was replying to Joviwan's comment about a game with a context sensitive button.
