Rome:Total War installation problem (Now with bragging!)

Well, I decided today to reinstall Rome:Total War. The installation went fine, except for one problem: At the end of it, the game shortcut was blank and the executable was missing. All the data folders are there, but I can't execute the program. What the fucking fuck?
Edit: Also, I just realized that the installer never asked for the CD key, which is probably why I'm having this problem when I think about it.
Edit2: Uninstalling and reinstalling worked, though it still never asked for the CD key.

I think it only asks for the CD key if you play multiplayer.

RTW is old-school. Not only does the installer not seem to care about your CDkey, but you can clone an RTW installation by simply copying the program directory out of C:\Program Files\Activision\Rome - Total War, and it will work perfectly. That comes in really handy if you have a modded version and you want to reinstall your OS. The only hitch is if you want to install an official patch, because the patches check for the registry entries to see which version is currently installed. Therefore, you'd only want to do this with a fully patched version.

Yeah, I love it. Senatus Populusque Romanus, motherfuckers.
Ironically enough, the reason I had to reinstall was due to the SPQR mod fucking up my installation in the first place.

Well, as long as this is still on the front page, I just made the most hardass city capture in Roman history.
I didn't realize the Thracians had three squads of onagers in the city, so I only built two siege towers. One was destroyed during the approach. The other made it to the wall and the urban cohort manning it started to climb... and then the onagers turned their fire on it, with flaming ammo. Only half the cohort was at the top when the siege tower caught on fire. They started to bail out, but only eight made it out of the tower before it collapsed.
Now I was really in trouble. I had eight men inside the city, an army outside, and no way in. I had to capture the gate, but oh shit, here comes two squads of militia hoplites. I start hacking through them and to my amazement I'm winning when another squad comes up, along with two squads of archers that had apparently run out of arrows. I lost four of the eight legionaries, but they hacked through all five enemy companies and captured the gatehouse.
But this had taken so long that I had bare minutes before time ran out and I lost anyway! My cavalry barely managed to charge all the way across the city to the plaza and took out the troops guarding it with 43 seconds left on the hourglass. I have never had such close calls in this game in my entire life, and I had them both in the same battle. It was epic.

On the one hand, it's a bit geeky to go onto a webboard and brag about a successful battle in a videogame.
On the other hand, I can totally understand why you did it

Wait wait wait. Are you saying that eight men managed to fight their way through five whole squads of enemies? Is that normal?

No, but it's not totally inconceivable, in the case of elite troops fighting garbage militia hoplites, especially on the walls where they can't use their long spears.

You know how I know I'm totally lame (other than the fact that I have a mirror and can read my own posts)?
I bought this game the day it came out and I still haven't installed it. That was what, 2004?

Hey, I make absolutely no bones over the fact that I am a geek. Someday we shall rule the world.
Anyway Ford, normally it would have been impossible, but the first squad of hoplites in the line broke and started trying to rout, except they were on the wall with another squad behind them and couldn't get away. Having a routing unit from the same side near another unit for an extended period of time will make other units start to break morale, and so forth. So they were more hacking their way through a bunch of disorganized, panicking guys than fighting through an organized resistance.

Militia hoplites have a shield but no armour at all, and their morale is shit. I've successfully pulled off some heroic defenses with them, but it was always by keeping them near the city square where they won't rout. If you put them on the walls where they can't deploy their phalanx formation, their morale is so bad that I've seen them break and run before even taking a single casualty.

While we're on the topic of Total War, I'm confused by something. In the Kingdoms manual, it says that it adds the Hotseat campaign function to the Grand Campaign. However, the Hotseat button is nowhere to be found in the multiplayer menu. Is the manual wrong, or is there something wrong with the game?

Install it then add Europa Barbarorum mod to it.
Then get ready for the hardest fucking fight for your life as the AI is ruthless, upkeep is through the roof, you have to build governments before you can begin to recruit units. I am playing as Safot Softim biQarthadast and the Romanoi (currently in the Camillian Reforms) are running all over Sicily and I am just barely holding them.
Here is the site:
