Realtek Audio Driver Help

I got a new computer and since I built it myself I've spent all day installing Windows XP and the million XP updates it needs. Ive also had to format and re-install XP on my older computer as I'm giving it to my niece and given my net habbits a wipe is needed before I give it to my niece and her mothers fragile sensabilities.

In both cases when I've tried to install the motherboards drivers windows has informed me that the audio drivers aren't the right ones, the Realtek HD Audio Drivers on the mother boards driver CD, and I can't get the fecking sound going for love nor money. I'm sitting here with a beautiful quad core and it's insanely expensive (for me) GeForce 8800GT Where am I going wrong?

Buying a quad core? LOL!

Unless you forgot to install the mobo chipset drivers, just go to Realtek's website and look up the audio part there. Getting them to work under Vista was a pain in the anus, but XP shouldn't give you any problems.

I'm actually having the same problem, mostly cause I can't find the frakking CD that came with my motherboard. Realtek's site is shit.

I, too, have bought a mobo with Realtek onboard audio.

Get rid of it as fast as you can. Disable it, and plug in some other sound card, something; ANYTHING. The microphone is poorly designed and completely useless due to feedback.

You can have decent Realtek-based audio and bad Realtek-based audio - it just depends on how well your particular motherboard implemented it.

In any case, you should look at the motherboard manufacturer's site for mobo specific drivers. They should have working audio drivers there too.

My onboard soundcard doesn't actually have a microphone lol.

I use the Realtek onboard since my last upgrade and haven't had any problems. Before that I used a Soundblaster card.

Realtek here was well with no issues aside from ridiculously obtuse UI design.

I'm not sure if it's Realtek's fault or Vista's fault, but front panel auto-detect = crash audio and network systems. Great stuff.

Managed to get the sound on both computers working. Seemed to be a matter of uninstalling and reinstalling the hardware several times.
