C&C FPS: Tiberium. Yea, EA's rolling the dice..

Post by SirNitram »

..And praying for a seven. I think you want a seven in craps.

Just caught this off X-play, but apparently information is still at a trickle. Confirmed:

Squad to order around.
Squad will include air support(Orcas) and heavy guns(Titans).
GDI badass as the character.
A gun that changes shape more than a Creationist tries to change the subject.

If you die inside when a Titan lumbers in, obviously avoid this like the plague. But I'm wondering if this will be half as smart-assed and enjoyable as Renegade.

Renegade was surprisingly fun (for a FPS) so this might actually be playable. I won't count on it though, and I personally wish they'd play around more in the First Tiberium War era like Renegade did. You know, before the world went to complete shit and you somehow end up with a less interesting setting.

I hope they don't make the same mistake they did with Renegade and make a game with absolutely no cheats.

What? once I beat the game legit-like, I want to make it my bitch. COD4 did this wonderfully with the slowmo and infinite ammo cheats. Renegade didn't even have so much as a god-mode or all-weapons cheat.

Anyway, Tiberium is looking good so far.Hopefully they'll make a reference or two to Renegade.

Renegade wasnt that good for me and without cheats I have no intrest in buying / playing it again because the disk was damaged. The story was the only real appeal but even that was fairly bland.
I just find it really unlikely you can make an FPS game around an RTS based genre. This will be especially true when half the appeal of C&C is you get the choice between Nod / GDI to see both sides of the story.
Playing an FPS where you only get to go the 'good' guys generally sucks considering only 1 character has ever remained consistant in C&C and he ISNT the good guy.

The 'Titan' dosent ring a bell with me unfortunatly so I have no idea what it is but I presume it is from the Tiberium Sun game. That game just didnt hold my intrest. Regardless, it does seem fairly stupid to make an FPS game around that point when you have brought out Tiberium Wars.
Although maybe they will have it tie into the TW story along with Kane's Wrath.

I suspect the multiplayer will be the focus of a game like this and with any luck they will include the Rengade system on a bigger scale. Would be even more fun if they tried including a BattleZone 2 FPS/RTS combination but I'm doubting it.

Pred, it's based around the Tiberium Wars era.

The Titan in the game is an upgrade from the one's in Tiberium Sun.

Completely off-topic, but the basic craps rules are:

1. If you roll a seven at the start of the game, you win.
2. If you roll a two or twelve at the start of the game, you lose. (speaking of which, you all just lost the game)
3. If you roll anything other than a two, seven, or twelve, keep rolling. The goal is to roll that number again before you roll a seven. If you roll a seven at this part of the game, you lose.

Anyway, I'll let you get back to your topic.

I read the GameInformer article about it a month or so ago. It looks promising, but then again I loved Renegade. I just hope they're not being overambitious; it looked like they were trying to cram 3 different games together.

Considering how little the final product of Renegade matched the previews and what was promised, I am really hoping the same applies here with Tiberium.

Based on gameplay movies and the trailer I saw, the implication is that you're fighting Scrin. No NOD in sight. That alone completely removes any desire I might have for buying this game.

Renegade was a horrendous single-player game, in terms of gameplay, AI, plot, and even continuity (but its multiplayer is still the best I've ever played). It looks like this game is going to continue to throw out any connection with the original C&Cs.

Eh? The X-play segment had what are definitely NOD installations. Very religious/mystical design elements.

Renegade was quite fun, I can only hope that this one will at least match it in that regard. I can only hope the single-player will be more enjoyable, though, hopefully it won't have the same issues as Renegade (which TC pilot mentioned).

I dunno. Renegade could have had buffs, like not taking values from the RTS and porting them directly into FPS. For example, your bullets should not immediately lose all momentum at the rifle infantry's max range. Tank shells shouldn't blow up at a hundred metres etc.
