Laptop power overseas?

My grandma's visiting overseas from Italy at the moment. Despite the fact that she's fairly computer illiterate, she wants to get a laptop while she's here and pretty insistent on it...sigh.

We'll be getting something local off of Craigslist. A few Dell and HP notebooks have caught our eye. My question is what will happen when she ends up back in Italy?

I know desktop power supplies have switches from 110 to 220 and you can just get an adapter, but what about laptops? Do I have to by an Italian power supply from Dell, or just get an adapter and it'll take either?

Thanks all!

The PSU will take either voltage, so all you need is an adapter for the plug.

Check the power adapter that comes along with it. It is pretty standard these days to get one that services both 110V and 220 V. The only issue is the socket adapter that you will need.
