Ghost Recon+Rainbow Six Story Query:

I'm curious as to whether R6 and Ghost Recon are set in the same continuity. I recall reading about something in GR2 about an intel ship being sunk being sunk by Sam Fisher and was hoping something like that happened between Rainbow Six and the Ghosts.
I know this isn't really a technical question, and if this is in the wrong place please move it.

Yes, the stories are intertwined to a degree. The upcoming HAWX will have you fill the role of Ghost Recon's air support, and the upcoming EndWar will apparently tie together all of the franchises.
In Rainbow Six: Vegas 2, you meet up with an NSA agent who looks an awful lot like the lesser Splinter Cells from the co-op game of Splinter Cell 3: Chaos Theory.

Thanks! I'll have to look up more on this HAWX game, and I suppose I could read the endwar novel. Hopefully this will be an interesting melding of franchises!

As a general rule, don't bother with the novels. After reading the one for Splinter Cell, I refuse to touch another book set in the Clancyverse that adds an "apostrophe s" to the end of the man's name. Seriously, they're generally written by hacks who just crank shit out in the name of the almighty dollar.

While the "Tom Clancy's" games are all basically set in the same continuity, the Rainbow novels and games are seperate.

I'm sure that there were links between Rainbow and the first Splinter Cell game.
But they can all be linked in the "Tom Clancy hates Georgians" criteria.

While the original Rainbow Six novel may be slightly separate, the games are not. As I indicated above, the latest Rainbow Six games are integrated with the rest of the videogame Clancyverse, and they also refer back to previous games in the Rainbow Six series.
Let's review:
In Vegas 1&2, there is turmoil in Mexico, which causes trouble for America. NSA Splinter Cells are involved.
In Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 1&2, there is turmoil in Mexico, which causes trouble for America.
The only separation here really is in Splinter Cell, which involves more globetrotting, as a general rule. Conflict in Central and South America, however, is no small plot point.

Rainbow is tied into the actual Jack Ryan-verse.
The Ghost Recon, Splinter Cell and HAWX games are set in a spin-off universe with occassional references to Rainbow thrown in.

I'd be more willing to accept that if it weren't for the fact that EndWar will have Rainbow Six referenced in it, and that Rainbow Six: Vegas has direct tie-ins with the other franchises.
Have I been talking to a wall here?

Sorry what? I refuse to acknowledge anything beyond Raven Shield in the Rainbow canon.

Whatever man, it all builds on itself. If you want to play the wounded fan who doesn't like the way the series went, you can, but unless you can show me in the Clancy books where the original game, Rogue Spear, and Raven Shield tie in, I'm going to sit with the much more reasonable position that all the games are of a separate canon from the actual Clancyverse, and the novelizations are even FURTHER removed. Now, nothing in Lockdown or Vegas violated the canon of the previous three R6 games, so any argument for separate canon is apparently not based on any rational reason, but rather that you don't like the newer games.
Now, I can understand hating Lockdown, and to a degree I can understand the hate on Vegas, but this isn't a discussion on the quality of those games, rather, it is a discussion of their stories.

The Rainbow games (initially at least) are VERY tightly tied into the Ryan-verse, even to the point of you know, being one of the goddamn books.
The Rainbow games haven't crossed over into the others until Vegas 2 where Splinter Cell drops in - so up until that point it was reasonable to assume that R6 stood alone - I haven't played GR2 Summit Strike (the only hole in my Clancy-verse game canon) and so I'm not sure if Rainbow is mentioned there.

Er, yes. I know. That's why I said 'the "Tom Clancy's" games are all basically set in the same continuity', but the fact of the matter is that the Rainbow Six novels have nothing to do with the Rainbow Six games (or at least they don't any more).

Either you've never played the first game, or you never actually read the book. They are NOT the same. To quote the makers of the game:
Linka wrote:(If you compare the game to the novel, however, you’ll notice that they have different endings. Due to scheduling constraints, we had to lock down the final missions several months before Clancy finished writing. One of the pitfalls of parallel development…)
And from there, they go off on their own. Admittedly, I've not read much Clancy, but I've not heard of any of the developments from Rogue Spear or Raven Shield playing into things. So what we've got is immediate divergence from canon from game one.
To a degree, but given the similar plotlines each game has had over time, and the new announcement with EndWar, it's hard to maintain that notion.
