Favourite GTA Intro
Given I hear this unknown game called GTA IV is out, I figured having finally started playing it and seeing a lack of a movie intro, I'd see which of the previous games garner the most love for their catchy opening.
All of the intros are on YouTube for your perusal if you've never seen one or all of them. None of the games prior to GTA III (GTA, GTA2 and GTA: London '69 has such video intros, from memory).
I have to say, it's a toss-up between the jazz opening to GTA III and the pure '80s awesome that is GTA: VC's.

It's on the list, its the last optionAdmiral Valdemar wrote:Bah. I'd add it, but it never lets you modify poll options after a certain time. And GTA2 was just odd to me.

The GTA2 intro is pretty sweet, on its own, but as a game introduction, an introduction to the characters and the story, etc etc, I actually like GTA IV the most thematically. It's quite different than the other GTAs, but then again most of them are pretty singular.

GTA IV has more of the makings of a self-styled gangster movie, whereas the others tend to be homages to various franchises in the past. Since the storyline is even more important this time round, it's taken on a different style, although I wish there was some little movie sequence with music during the loading up or something.

I'd have to go for VC. It has some kickass music while the ambushers are getting set up for the attack, then they leap out and spray the entire thing. Somehow, Tommy manages to dodge shots from several MP5s, a shotgun, and I think an M60 before jumping into a car through the window and escaping. And it's a little funny how the Mafia at the beginning just leave the door to the meat locker open for everyone to see the hanging corpse.
GTA IV. I loved that opening video with the ship and everything. The way they blended the credits with an intro movie was nice, and basically gave it that cinematic feel.
But since that wasn't a poll option, I went with the GTA II movie. The full length version is especially nice. I never really played enough to know whether what you see in the movie has much bearing on the missions you eventually performed, but it seemed to hit the highlights and still showcased some of the factions in the game.

The GTA2 intro is pretty much the most kickass thing ever made. Unfortunately, it doesn't really match the cyberpunk/'50s style of the game, but maybe that's to prevent people from dying from Awesome Overload (but could also be budgetary reasons).
