Help with Ubuntu on my ThinkPad T20

I've been having a problem with the computer locking up as described here. However, I made the changes that ThinkWiki suggested and they didn't work. Are there any other ways to prevent the graphics card from being overloaded? I don't care how crappy my screen looks by the end so long as I can read emails and write papers until I can afford a new computer.
