How do you play Speedball 2?

I grew up when this came out on Amiga, and I played it on Mega Drive too. I'm a bit rubbish at all sport games, but I was fine at Mutant League Hockey etc.

But I have almost no idea how to play Speedball 2. My passes are constantly intercepted, my attempts to injure the other team don't work, I can barely even hit the bloody multiplier things on the walls. It's even out on Xbox Live these days, and I'd like to actually get good at the game after fifteen years.

Is anyone any good? Even any good at other soccer games?

Hmmmm.... been a while since I played SB2.

IIRC I used the old trick of throughing the ball to the opposing guy in front of you and then slide tackle him as soon as he picks it up. That and using the thing on the wall that made the ball a golden ball of doom.

That's pretty much it. Also, spend some time grabbing money on the pitch, because if you're playing the league you need to upgrade your players. A lot.

Yeah, I know what you're supposed to do, but it doesn't seem to work; I'm rubbish at slide tackling, and I guess I pass to the enemy from too far away if you're supposed to hit them during their 'catch' animation.

Hmmm. I guess it's like that Bombing Run game in UT2k4. Maybe I can use those skills to do it; I was a master of passing to a guy about to shoot me with a rocket launcher and then killing him before he realised his gun was now a football. Maybe I'll get good one day...

Altho i was particularly rubbish at this game I seem to recall my mate was'nt.

His approach (when playing the league) was to reset if you got one of the top 2 teams (who would destroy your starting team) and hope he got one of the duffers (like renegade??).

Collect as much cash as you can whilst destroying them, that way you can afford the shit-hot centre mid and centre forward, which you use to destroy the nest team you play.

Rinse & repeat
