TV keeps shutting off when playing XBox 360

Recently whenever I'm playing on the XBox 360, my TV keeps turning off an hour into it. I try turning it back on, but it immediately shuts back off. This occurs only when the XBox is on. Can anyone help me with this?

Perhaps your Xbox power supply is shorting out the TV?

When you say it's "shutting off," do you mean it's going into standby mode, or that it's actually turning itself off? If it's just going into standby, check that there's no "standby timer" or anything set to come on in AV mode.

Clearly his X-Box has been possessed by a wrathful luddite spirit.
You'll need a flash drive, a leather bound copy of the linux source code, and can of Bawls/Surge/or other highly caffinated drink of choice.
Flip to the fifth page of the source code and read aloud while drawing increasingly complex geometic shapes in the air with the flash drive.
Every five minutes you shall take a swig of the beverage, and utter the phrase "Unbutu BIOS diskette," make one full turn clockwise and curtsy.
Be sure to have a third party film the ritual, and upload it for... study.

In serious attempts, are you using a power stip or just the outlet? How old is the TV? Are there any settings on either that may have changed recently?

Maybe the controller is turning it off. Like your remote control should be doing.

I had a similar problem a few months ago; oddly enough I was able to solve it by switching the 360 to a different set of A/V jacks (the TV had two in the back and one on the side).

that acutally sounds like a feasible possibility... I wonder if that was the case what could be done to fix it...

That doesn't really make sense, as the two operate on two entirely different wavelengths of light. It's like trying to turn on your TV with a flashlight. This is also disregarding that there are specific codes of on-off flashes that IR remotes use to communicate the different button functions, which are different for every manufacturer (hence the code pages included with most universal remotes).
It sounds more like it's a power issue. Try plugging the TV into a different pair of outlets than the XBox, using an extension cord if necessary, and see if it still does it.

Might want to check your fusebox also. Though I suppose if it were that, the Xbox would shut off too.

No. Xbox wireless controllers are RF devices, not IR.
The only thing I can think of is that the Xbox is trying to set a display mode that the TV is not happy with. How is it connected? Can you change to a different connection set? Is it in HD? Does dropping out of HD make a difference?
